Mars One

Well at the moment there's lots of ideas about the sex. Many thinking/purposing a much more open everyone with anyone is the only way forward, with others saying send long term couples. Everyone advises against just sending random people.

"It'll shoot the fleas off a dog's back at 500 yards Tannen!"

Yes it's a very good quote, but I don't see how that's relevant.

:D

I was actually thinking "this is heavy".

Dr. Emmett Brown: There's that word again. "Heavy." Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the Earth's gravitational pull?

Got to page 35 before I got bored. So far only found the following ladies good looking but that's my personal taste -

Christine page 6
Christina page 17
Gillian page 21
Moova page 22
Juniper page 22
Ester page 24
Claudia page 30
Andria page 30
Guler page 35

EDIT: Ara Molina page 44

From the Op "Successful candidates will train together in teams of four for seven years."

I know the mission is "ongoing" i wouldn't get through the training..:p

In teams of 4, not only 4.
Crews(4 people) would be delivered every 2 years. They aren't going to train in solitude for 7 years, there's no point, as that's not the mission. The first crew will have to survive almost a fall 2 years on their own, with every other group, only having to spend ~210 days in a group of 4 before landing and meeting up with the existing people.

For the most part I enjoy reading your posts they're normally interesting but for the love of God can you turn auto correct off on your tablet because the random words are beginning to drive me insane! :p

It sounds sad that this expensive project nearly sounds like it's purely for a tv show.

The complete opposite, the tv is just for funding and nothing else.
They don't even expect the tv to fully fund later years, as the crew on mars expands. They can carry out commercial research to fund their supplies/new crew.

I'd laugh if someone came back after many years and pulled a quote from Back to the Future.

Back to The Future Part II said:
"Argh!"

"Doc! Doc! It's me Marty!"

"No! It can't be; I just sent you back to the future!"

"No, I know; you *did* send me back to the future. But I'm back - I'm back *from* the future."

"Great Scott!"
*Faints*

"Doc! Doc! Doc! Oh, fantastic."

*TO BE CONCLUDED...*

?

:p:D

Personally i think they should just send One Direction there and only send provisions enough for four people...

I'd watch the hell out of that.

Send 5 of the lowest celebrity females out there with them (Miley Cyrus, Lindsey Lohan etc etc) so they can procreate far and away from Planet Earth.

The plan is to continually expand the colony and there is speculation about making tunnels/caves/domes from Martian soil that might be able to hold an atmosphere. Eventually, they plan to try and grow trees and I would imagine somewhere down the line full terraforming (if this is even possible).

Initially each member will have around 50m3 of space so claustrophobes need not apply!

I agree with the comments about exploration, the only comparison that is remotely close is the puritans setting off for the New World in 1620.

As for myself I find it fascinating but I know I wouldn't pass selection so there is no point applying. The finality of it puts me off too
