*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

The 'total' is with no downloaded apps (along with their own cache and data), available is what you have left. The rest of it is taken by a whole bunch of sized partitions all filled (or not) with system, logs, data, imei..... different system apps and files that you can't see without going deep into the root. Now if you had the Google Edition i9505G you'd have 13GB total, same device just less bloat and partitioned differently.

So should i be using/or setting my phone up differently with a memory card installed?

I still dont understand it fully but thanks for explaining it:)

Much better help on here than XDA:D cheers all S4 ocukers. They want you to read like 100 pages and if you ask something thats been answered wo betide you!

Yep my storage space is still 9.25GB even though I'm using a tiny ~300MB AOSP ROM compared to a 2GB TW ROM.

You have to manually change the partition if you want the extra space.

guys can someone give me an honest opinion, if you were to run an S4 with the brightness set to max and automatic brightness turned off would you get a full days use out of the battery or would it nail it??

Depending on what you're doing on your phone you'd get 2-3hrs screen on time I think. Compared to the usual 4-5hrs. If you were on a white screen too it would murder it.

I use mine (google edition rom) with the brightness pretty much all the way up without auto brightness which I hate, normally easily get a day which is generally a couple of hours of calls, push email all day and maybe 30 to 45 minutes of gaming depending on the day.

BT, wifi and GPS on always too. It's really quite impressive. I do sometimes need to give it a quick top up towards the end of the day and sometimes plug in at 11ish with less than 10% but it'll certainly do it.

No there's nothing you can do about it. There's wasted space, temp area for Kies firmwares downloads that kind of thing. You'd need a pit file will all the partition mountings changed to get it back and some way of transferring all the phones ident files. I wound't be the first to volunteer.

Here's a list of the partitions.

So I thought I'd ordered the pink S4 for the GF, but they've sent the purple one. Rang up to be told they never had the pink one and instead have been sending out the purple one. They now want me to fund for it to be sent back within 3 days with no refund of postage because I'm the one requesting a cancellation. Refused to take any money off or to pick it up, refused to let me speak to a manager so asked for their complaints procedure which is an email so have fired one of. Idiots.

Read their T&Cs and see if it mentions if buyer has to pay return postage under the DSR, if it doesn't then they have to refund you the full cost of the item + original delivery + return delivery.

Don't think their going to get back to me. Person on the phone was extremely rude saying its me who's requesting a cancellation etc despite them sending the wrong item. Just going to send it back with RMSD, hope it gets back to them fine and they cancel everything ok including the contract.

Don't count on it based on the customer service you've had so far! I'd call the network and just double check that they get notified that you returned it.

I've rang my bank to make sure the direct debit won't be taken out. Good idea on ringing the network, I'll make sure they know too. Bloody girlfriend always wanting everything in pink!

I've just had a notification to accept the terms of 'Samsung Denial Log Reporting Service'

The hell is that?!

Argh, more problems on MH8 I'm getting spammed with "Prevention Information" errors. Seems to be some Samsung Service is claiming WhatsApp is trying to access a system file it isn't authorised to do?

Anyone seen this?

MH8 is one to avoid. I've "heard" a lot of issue's including the one above. How to fix/sort couldn't say as I only flash roms several weeks after release in order to avoid hideous outcomes

You can stop the pop ups, you have to root it and mess with the Knox files. But then your binary counter will indicate custom blah blah and you can't reset it yet as triangle away isn't working on MH8 yet.
