I expect it's held in the warehouse. Would love it to come early though.

Why not? When it comes to games like GTA I don't think people go on Amazon and then think, oh look GTA V, I'll buy that, I think they go, hmm GTA where shall I get that, oh look Amazon have it for pre-order. It's definitely that way round. GTA will get the biggest sales to date regardless of whether Amazon were selling it.

Surely if it's dispatched today before 8pm you'd expect it on your doorstep by Saturday which would be a complete breach of R*'s request. I'm sure Amazon think they have the upperhand in negotiations but all R* have to do is only allow orders from their website next time and completely cup out the retailers, I'd be incredibly surprised if it hurt sales more than 1%. Radiohead did it with In Rainbows and it was their biggest selling/grossing album to that date.

Publishers need retailers, just as the console manufacturers do. They'd like to be able to remove them from the supply chain but they can't do that without damaging their sales significantly.

For something big, like Harry Potter books in the past, they get it all packaged up, dispatched them, then they all sit in a warehouse for a couple of days before it is all sent out for delivery on release date.

It's not dispatched on individual orders. They collate all the orders together and keep it separate.

I guess this is where our opinions differ. I agree wholeheartedly with most games but this is GTA we're talking about. Everyone who's anyone is going to buy this game regardless of whether Amazon are selling it.

Well then they shouldn't be allowed to tell people it's dispatched if it's still sitting in their warehouse.

How would it be rolled and fit into a game case? Sorry I must be missing something obvious here. Only the CEs got a chance of that really...

Just because it says dispatched doesn't mean it's now in the hands of the courier and on its way, it could mean a variety of things depending on how they've decided to handle it. I'd have my hopes up too, though!

Sort of...

I pre ordered on PS3 and paid early, then my PS3 broke so cancelled the pre-order so they refunded me the money to my ShopTo account balance.

Since then I have re-ordered on Xbox and the credited money is still showing in my ShopTo balance.


I would guess Amazon are just getting them ready and marked dispatched so the can pile them up in the warehouse ready to go out for delivery Tuesday, although fingers crossed they do come early.

For the people who have been intending to get it for ages already I totally agree. There's still going to be a significant amount of people who'll pick it up on impulse though, or because they've seen the banner on Amazon, or whatever. There's already been several posts in this thread by people who have only just caught on to the hype surrounding the game.
 
Yup thousands of new fans will get this because they saw the advert. but the majority (i hope) are fans, and would have sourced their copy beforehand regardless of where...

I only picked amazon because they have never let me down, not just with games but anything also their returns policy is probably only seconded by logitech.

all down to personal preference :p

on another note, I love how yesterday it was crying about the map and today it's crying over the supposed leaked gameplay.
 
From all the people who have had hands on with both versions they have all claimed there was no visual difference, and no pop up (only in the very far distance)

Guys please remember that GTAIV was many moons ago, it's easy to see R* are masters of this engine, have a bit of fatihe lol
