I too want to try this but don't want to fork out 30 notes for something that all I ever see is crying from the community. Seems to be a common thing with Blizzard games though.
Can someone give a neutral view on this RMAH, am I restricted in any way by not using it? Can I get the same items I see in the AH in game? If not then I'm out unless it's purely cosmetic and not beneficial.

Whilst there are complaints about the rmah, theres plenty more problems with the game that have nothing to do with either ah which are legit and it sucks even more that the console release is looking much better and the update for pc is way off yet.

Youll have no issues not using the rmah, though you will have a much better time later in the game if you use the gold ah. That said its entirely possible to get through the game using self found gear. Though youll gimp yourself quite a lot unless youre extemely lucky with drops.

Tldr, lots of people have got through the game without using the rmah.

That's what I was looking for :) Quite happy using gold AH, just don't want to get into that spiral of buying virtual items, that stuff is long behind me now. Can I play solo just fine or do I HAVE to play MP?

To be honest a lot of the crying over this game is purely just the way of the world these days, especially games that have millions of people playing it. Don't get me wrong, some of the crying is justified as the game has its problems but even in its current state the game is no less than about 8.5/10. Even with it's issues I've put over 1,200 hours into the game and still come back for more.

You don't have to even look at the RMAH if you don't want too and doing so will not hamper your game experience, it's purely there for people who wish to buy or sell their items for proper currency. The gold AH is far more populated with items anyway so if anything you'll find it harder to buy the same items for pounds than you would with gold.

You also do not have to play multi player at all, it will not reduce your gaming experience other than that of whatever fun you'd get from playing with other people.

Reaper of Souls is what this game might need to get me back into it. Hopefully Blizzard do a collectors edition for the expansion pack :D.

Think it will get me back as well, the paladin is back!

Hardcore mode has NO rmah if that helps :)
Hardcore was a lot more fun for me once I discovered it, but in the end I got sick of dying to server issues. I lost at least four characters in their 50s (never made 60) to lag spikes or server crashes.

Removing the gold auction house too? :s
I'm puzzled by that, getting rid of RMA I can understand! I presume they'll add some other mechanism for trading stuff around without having to join a game with someone?
(At work so not read the link)

Copy and paste: :)

When we initially designed and implemented the auction houses, the driving goal was to provide a convenient and secure system for trades. But as we've mentioned on different occasions, it became increasingly clear that despite the benefits of the AH system and the fact that many players around the world use it, it ultimately undermines Diablo's core game play: kill monsters to get cool loot. With that in mind, we want to let everyone know that we've decided to remove the gold and real-money auction house system from Diablo III.

We feel that this move along with the Loot 2.0 system being developed concurrently with Reaper of Souls™ will result in a much more rewarding game experience for our players.

We're working out the details of how the auction house system will be shut down, but we wanted to share the news as soon as we made the decision in order to give everyone as much advance notice as possible. Please note that the shutdown will occur on March 18, 2014. We will keep everyone informed as we work through this process.

Josh Mosqueira and I wanted to provide everyone with a little more information behind this decision, so please have a look at the video, and stay tuned to this site for further updates in the months ahead.

I can't think of a situation that has been more fitting of the phrase "closing the stable door after the horse has bolted".

Sounds bang on. Too little too late for me. Whilst I still enjoyed the game a lot, the prevalence of the auction houses - especially the RMA really sucked the fun out.

This news could actually drag me back for a hardcore play through. Agreed though, the AH ruined the spirit of what Diablo truly is. Kill monsters for epic loot!

I agree the RMAH ruined Diablo 3 in a lot of ways but I work a lot of hours and couldn't play to much but I still wanted to be competitive and play the same mp levels as my mates who played all day every day so the RMAH made it so I could. I think its more the fact the RMAH was easily abused there should maybe be limits on buying or something?

holy moly! awesome news, I will play again now (post march and I may even buy the expansion) :D

It's not the AHs per se that is the problem, it's the fact that the drop rates were tuned to take into account the ability to effectively gear up via those mechanisms. Given the wonkiness of the loot itself it meant that the chance of you getting the drop that you could either sell to buy improvements, or actually improve your character was so infinitely small that it was ridiculous.

Anyway, roll on loot 2.0.

Makes perfect sense! And the timeframe would be consistent with the WoW expansion announcements to release timeframe (6 - 8 months if I remember correctly)
