Awesome, Diablo 3 will be infinitely better without that auction house, it was a bad idea from the get go.

Now all they need is ladder seasons and it's back on track
Ladders are confirmed for the expansion (season style).
I'd say more the release date for Loot 2.0 as they have implied that taking down the Auction Houses is due in part to Loot 2.0, and we know it's coming before the expansion so expansion is probably April / early May.

This is really great news. Looking forward to playing this again !
It's an enjoyable enough game. I only did one playthrough on Normal mode with a mage. Your character feels enormously powerful; waves and waves of enemies go squish in satisfying and visceral ways
I had no issues finding decent loot on Normal - I think people felt compelled to use the AH on the harder difficulties tho.
Ultimately after a single playthrough I found something much, much more fun: Borderlands 2. Since then I've not even thought about D3.

The normal editions of blizzard addons have been £18-25 quid in the past. So ill doubt it be a full fat £35 unless it was standalone which its not

When we initially designed and implemented the auction houses, the driving goal was to provide a convenient and secure system for trades. But as we've mentioned on different occasions, it became increasingly clear that despite the benefits of the AH system and the fact that many players around the world use it, it ultimately undermines Diablo's core game play: kill monsters to get cool loot. With that in mind, we want to let everyone know that we've decided to remove the gold and real-money auction house system from Diablo III.
Translation: The playerbase has dropped off so much with so few people using the RMAH that is it no longer worthwhile maintaining the system.
This could be true. Hard to say. In general, D3 added nothing really new to the series. Diablo II is probably still most people's favourite in the series, whilst I still like D1 the best

Loot 2.0 coming meant all current loot will be worthless.
The level cap raise to 70 means all current loot and any loot 2.0 lvl60 loot will be worthless.
Ladders mean any current loot and gold will be worthless.
You either play for the fun of it or not at all. If you're not having any fun with it right now, try when loot 2.0 or when RoS comes out.
I never played Diablo 2 online. What did these 'ladders' keep a track of?
Also, really quite looking forward to the expansion now - the game should have had random dungeons in from the outset, and hopefully the new loot rules will fix that-wot-wasn't-quite-broken-but-wot-didnt-quite-work
