doing my shopping last night in asda, they have the glenlivet 18 on sale at 30 quid a bottle...absolute bargain for a superb dram
 
back from a week in oban

picked these bad boys up...have not cracked either as I have other stuff to drink yet

21 year old mortlach and 21 year old glenlivet...Gordon and macphail offer superb value compared to distillery bottlings. there was a 20 year old bladnoch I also had my eye on but couldnt convince my good lady that I needed all 3!

Opened this last night :) I got it for my 30th birthday a few years ago and always promised to open it when we had our first born. He was born on the 11th September and last night the friend that bought it for me came over to meet him so I opened it with him and we had a dram together. It was a really awesome moment :)

Well, it is unmistakenly Laphroaig but it is so mellow and smooth. It really is like drinking liquid gold :)

My favourite Laphroaig to drink regularly is the Quarter Cask. I've had the 10, Triple Wood, the 15 and 18 years and the 30 year is just world's apart but I'd expect nothing less of something that has aged for so long.

I feel really privileged that my friends would honour me with such an amazing gift. I am definitely going to savour every last drop :)

If you can stretch by an extra fiver, you can get the Balvenie Doublewood from Asda for £30. That's a cracking whisky :)
 
Do they do a smaller bottle :p

It doesn't have to be a litre bottle.

Going for a few drinks at someone house and just need a bottle to last the night :)
 
A mate came down for the weekend and as we both like whisky we'd got a selection of samples from Master of Malt to try. Very Brief notes below.

Friday, listed in the order we tried them

Master of malt 50 year old Speyside - Disappointing but not unexpected after trying old Macallams, smooth but no real flavour.
Haig Dimple 15- Bought off the back of seeing it in Breaking Bad, a really good blend, tasted like a good Speyside, fruity and smooth.
Springbank 10 - Nice enough, I'll probably pick up a bottle next time I see it reduced in a supermarket.
Talisker 25 - Disappointing and bland. It lost everything I like about Talisker, the change is as significant as the 18 is to the 10.
Talisker storm - Utterly awful, bad enough to get tipped down the sink rather than just downed. The taste was basically sulphur and salt, possibly an off dram but looking at other reviews probably not.
Penderyn - ok, glad I tried it but not for me
Penderyn sherrywood - worse but not undrinkable

Saturday, opinions distorted by hammering myself in a cross race whilst doing shots of tequila on each lap a few hours before.

Edradour ruby port 2003 - nice enough but I prefer the normal 10
Tomatin 21 - nice enough but fairly bland, I'm tempted to try a younger version though.
Highland Park 28 Year Old 1985 - An old Highland Park, I prefer it younger. The distillery 1990 release is my personal favourite.
Lagavulin 12 Year Old (2012 Release) - Tasted exactly as expected, I'll be getting a bottle.
