ASDA Costume apology.

PC gone mad.
Clearly those that slice people up with butchers knives are in no sane state of mind, and that's what they were getting at.

It's not even offensive at all as far as I'm concerned. What's next? Transylvania getting upset because of Dracula references? Mumsnet up in arms about a "mummy" costume? :p

Remember the days when people dressed up as Freddy Kruger in the late 80s?

How would you describe this?

CRAZY FROG.
Or should we need to tiptoe around that with just cartoon frog because Crazy sigmatises mentally ill patients to crazy animals that ride around a bike making crazy noises.

The best part about that was social media didn't exist back then and you never had Post Office Broadband for £2.99.

i do hate this sort of slippery slope

its pretty worrying where this is all heading, the illusion of freedom will soon even be gone!
lmao at the jimmy saville costume :D

for the record im AGAINST the BAN quite strongly. everything offends someone, heck, even doing nothing offends people!

There's never a balance. Always two extremes. All or nothing.

We can have freedom of speech without being needlessly offensive to the vulnerable

Why do so many people always get this wrong, you can have freedom of speech but with responsibility.

- but either way, I'm not suggesting using the law to enforce this view -

There's too much law, not enough enforcement. Seeing to be doing something.

just asking that large multinational corporations have some sensitivity to a collection of people who are also their customers (or face criticism, as if group A uses it's free speech to offend - group B is also free to condemn & criticise it).

Free speech isn't just saying whatever you want without being challenged.

In this case this is free speech working as intended,

Group A (corporation) exercised it's free speech by creating a product others deemed offensive.
Group B (some of the public) exercised it's free speech by criticising the product & requested it was removed/renamed due to it's insensitive nature.
Group A (corporation) agreed it was not worth the damage to reputation & made the changes.

Isn't this how the system should work? (with no laws being involved to force a specific view & all parties acting peacefully without coercion).

Looks like all the OcUK "nutters" are being offended here today.

Same as i do when all the fatty, fat, fat, fat threads pop up :P hahah

Imagine how different Britain would be if all this offending was directed towards politicians rather than each other.

The costumes represent a truth, one that was picked up and depicted by Hollywood.

I've honestly never seen these slasher films. It's not my cup of tea so I stay away from anything really with gore.

patient escapes from mental asylum goes on killing spree.

all the people offended aren't even the ones being stereotyped and mental asylums haven't existed for decades? but you likely know the types of people they held and it wasn't people suffering from depression or bipolar etc

I didn't expect it was. Usually when Hollywood says it's based on a true story, it's usually the character name and thats about it.
