Heating on yet ?

I have put the heating on this morning (constant), it has been off all through summer, but its starting to feel cold, i don't deal well with cold, so starting to feel toasty now, it will be switched off later if i go out, or just turned down (or off) if i decide to stay in and it gets too warm :)

We cant afford it, energy bills are becoming a joke. People will die this winter because they cant afford to be warm, all the while a bunch of crooks will be making a mint.

My house tends to hover at about 17*C for absolutely ages even with no heating but if it drops down, I just put extra layers of clothes on... combats over the top of jeans, hoodie over shirt and then wear my massive dressing gown over the lot... Nice and toasty whilst lazing about on the sofa. :)

Blame the Tories for selling it off.

Blame Ed Milliband for the Green tax that's costing a fortune.

Anything to do with Green is a rip off & should be scrapped

It's crazy. I don't know how accurate these indexes are

http://www.castlecover.co.uk/historic-home-utility-prices/

but I do know that I'm using more the 3 times less electricity than I did in 2005 yet the amount I pay is comparable !.

It's the gas index that is REALLY SCARY. I've got the electricity under control but without a smart device monitoring the gas I just have no idea on how to kerb usage. Currently my gas usage cost is twice as much as my electricity and I'm sure we're using less of it too

I had my heating on one evening a few weeks ago, but it hasn't been on since. It feels chilly, but a check on the thermometer still tells me my house temps are above 19degrees.

Our heating thermostat is set all year round to 18.5c between 06:30 - 08:30 and 16:00 - 22:30 and 16c all other times. Aircon then limits the temp to 21c between April and September (obviously aircon and central heating cannot be on at the same time).

If it drops below those temps then he heating is on. If it's above those temps then it's off. It's not rocket science and I don't see relevance of what month it is in deciding to put he heating on or not? I don't fiddle with the settings - that's why you have room thermostats and central control thermostats.

Nope, our flat is still pretty warm. We only have to put the heating on when the outside temp drops below ~5 degrees.

Over the last week I've had it come on about 5am for an hour (I get up at 6 for work) and on for 1/2 in the evening before my shower so I'm not shivering to death when I come out.

Looking at the temp monitor I have for outside, it's gone as low as 5.1°c here though. Living on the top of a hill between a lake and a reservoir with the recent winds it gets a bit chilly

Rather chilly at work - the boiler has packed up. Fingers crossed they'll sort it today.

Heating still off at home. It's a steady 20-23C so it's not needed. Usually gets turned on when it starts snowing in the depths of winter and the temperature drops inside to about 14C. Modern apartment blocks FTW.

How about your heating at work, guys?

I work in the admin block for a hospital and our radiators are controlled globally. Some clever cloggs decided that 1st September was the ideal date to turn them all on. Cue us arriving at sweltering offices at 9AM and having to open all of the windows. You can literally see the £1 coins dropping out of the windows. Waste of taxpayers' money.

Our building is sealed (windows are locked), and it is set to be at 25c all year round. Although sometimes it spikes to 30c (even in the winter), or drop to 22c).

Normally it is the women who complaints to the office manager when it is like 23c saying "it's freezing"....What it absurd is that I have a thermometer built into my clock so I can show them what temperature it is, they make it sound like it is like 8c the way they are moaning when in actual fact I haver never ever seen it under 22c.

22c is a LOVELY temperature and they are sitting there with jumpers and scarfs, where the men just get on with it in the same shirt and tie all year round.

Next day the office will be like 28c, as much as 30c, and everyone else will be sweating like crazy and the women moans again.

It is a vicious circle and they moan about why can't be be "just right". Well, 22c is "just right", except even with a 2 degree flucuation is too big to tolorate and everyone else suffers, and they don't realise that it is their complaint to begin with that starts off this merry go around.

I've just stuck a jumper on and got on with it. The women are moaning incessantly about the temperature. Think I'll go hide out in the workshop to get some peace and quiet!
