This is the final nail in the coffin for me. I really value my privacy on Farcebook and hate the idea that anyone can look me up save those I want to find me. Yes, it's their site, we're the products being sold and we don't have to use it. But here it is.

Facebook is binning a feature that lets people retain their anonymity on the social network.

The retirement of the "Who can look up your Timeline by name?" privacy setting was announced by the company on Thursday. It means anyone can find the profile of someone else through the search bar.

People used to be able to make themselves disappear from the search functions built into the site, and hide their presence on the network to strangers by modifying the setting.

Facebook had removed the feature for everyone that hadn't turned it on late last year, and now is erasing it for those who opted in as well.

So if you're one of those people who don't like people looking you up, well, tough. Be [even more] careful about you say or, well, get out. Now your employers, employees, nemeses, anyone you don't want can potentially find you. Time to go back to pseudonyms.

Right, what's wrong with them finding you. If you have everything as set to friends only, or what ever groups you limit things to, then random people won't actually be able to see anything on your profile. Complete non-issue.

Surely if you have your timeline as private then no one but friends can see it. Also if you get a random friend request then you just ignore/block that person? To top all that dont put much on fb in the first place?

Some people are extremely private and don't want to even be seen by those they don't want to see them. That's not you? Don't mind? That's fine. Some of us do.

this is name only right?
So if profile is friends only they only see your name?

Yes, they can.

I've just viewed my profile "as public". In spite of activating as many privacy functions as I can, there is still information people can see about me that I don't know how to get rid of.

Complete non issue. Those who value their privacy don't use social media. Those who don't do.

It's pretty simple really! I for one absolutely hate social media and choose not to use it. People who use it and whine are just annoying tbh.
