Neighbour asked to scrounge our wifi

Regarding the security and who is responsible part.

How does this work with proper public networks such as those in restaurants and airports, or even the BT Open that makes use of routers?

Are there ways with this to avoid liability?

I've found most public networks make you sign up these days, so I assume all traffic would be assigned to your account.

With BT Open you have to sign in before browsing.
 
Obviously it would be a no from me. How the hell do people have the cheek to ask that kind of stuff and not be embarrassed by doing so.
 
Wouldn't do it. For a once off, or whilst new internet is coming in, sure. Otherwise, **** right off.

You could always see what the traffic is and pick up n00dz and other stuff? :p

Exactly. They also heavily restrict your ability to do naughty things.

I let me new neighbours use my wireless for a couple of weeks while they got theirs sorted, then changed the SSID and password. I set up a different LAN to keep my stuff safer.

This is being friendly, your neighbour is a free-loading rtard.
 
I let my neighbour use my Wifi once upon a time. At the time we had our dog who was very protective over the house (Alsatian) and used to bark at the builders who were working on block pavign the road otuside and building the others opposite.

The neighbour was a bit of a waster, lived of "Daddys" money and did nothing during the day. So our dog used to bark at the builders and annoy her - She complained to the council who in turn told us that a neighbour complained - we only had one neighbour so the process of elimination was short.

I changed the password, she then had the cheek to text me - "Is your wireless working, I can't get it". To put it blunty I told her to go **** herself.

Don't do it, tell her to get her own Wifi - Make up an excuse or let her know that you aren't going to be responsible for her actions on your own Wifi.

any way, set up an SSID Free Wifi (if you can crack my encription)

No. You have absolutely no idea what she is looking up or getting up to, that might land you in trouble.

If she gets offended, then tough. It's her choice, she isn't owed anything.

the poor lass is probably on benefits just wanting to catch up on some re-runs of jeremy kyle while she slouches on her sofa in just her pants eating doritos by the bucket load.. and you have the nerve to call her cheeky!
 
Tell her you'll let her use for only 5 minutes. Then give her access to the guest network and block her MAC address 5 minutes later.
