*** Official Rugby League SLXVIII Thread ***

well chaps i'll see you next year. my first year following rugby league and have managed to get to 8 games, 2 away and the magic weekend. despite watching only 1 win and 7 losses have loved every minute

Magic weekend is awesome. Been the last three times for the full weekend with a crowd of about 8-10 of us, staying in a dirty hostel in Manc. Worth it just for the craic with the fans! :D

Which hotel? We do the same, our room was terrible. Travel Lodge Ancoats. The sofa had blood stains and the ceiling was a bit suspect. The lamps were upside down and all sorts. It was a good laugh though.

Three of us were walking around Manchester bumped into a crowd of Hull KR.... ohhhh ***** *****, ***** ***** ***** Warrington commenced. Followed by were not ******* anymore. People that were not around for the rugby did not have a clue what was going on, some saints fans came round the corned and the abused went onto them. :D

See the restructuring meeting has got shelved this week. Until after the RLWC. What do people think. Leave it as it is, 2 leagues of 12 with automatic promotion relegation? Or some weird 2 league of 12 to 3 leagues of 8 after so many rounds (very bizarre that one!)?

I think the promotion relegation has to come back to make it more interesting at the bottom of the table. How about looking at the union points scheme, an extra point for so many tries or not losing by more than a certain score?

Haha! Yep sounds exactly like our weekend. We stayed once in the Walkabout hostel - right above a walkabout which was quality. Get in from your night out and straight into walkabout to finish off the night, lol.

This year we stayed in a Nomad hostel right in the centre. Was good because it was 24hr so when we got back we just stayed up in the common room with a **** load of foreigners playing drinking games. It's a right weekend!

Yeah, definitely need to bring promotion/demotion back in, and change the play-off structure. Not really sure what was wrong with top 5 if I'm honest!

Top 5 (6 max) is a no-brainer, as is relegation/promotion. Every game has to mean something without having blowout scores in the play offs.

It looks like some of the SL clubs have finally had enough of Wood and co. I just hope they don't force something through that doesn't give the Championship clubs a fair crack

Is the prize money graded like in football? (Is there prize money?)

ie top win £1mil 2nd win £0.9mil 3rd win £0.8mil

I think I read somewhere that Wigan got £30k prize money for winning the GF.

Yes, £30,000 :(

The gate money for all the play off games is pooled and shared between the top 8 after the RFL take their cut for their outstanding performance in securing such high powered blue chip sponsors over the past 2 seasons.

Seen SBW has made himself available for the WC at the final hour. :p

He's too good to leave out but I can't help feel for the young lad who they had to drop to put him in the squad.. oh well, guess he's got many a year ahead of him! Can't wait to see SBW rip it up at Headingley vs PNG.

We had Italy priced at 55/1 to win outright and -52 on the handicap at work.

Luckily only minimal stakes, didn't see that coming at all! Weather was atrocious but that's no excuse as it was the same for both teams..

Cracking start to the campaign :(. Anybody go?

I was there. The Knights played better than the "first" team.

I had said Italy have a good team (they were missing their star halfbacks) but I never thought they would beat us.

We never looked like scoring in the second half. Hopefully this tournament puts a nail in coffin of McBananans England stint. It is just a shame it will come too late. (even if we win it I don;t think he is the man for the job)

Strong rumours that Virgin Media will be showing Premier Sports RL World Cup Coverage for free on channel 551 from Friday. That would be great news if true

That he is/was a disaster waiting to happen and McBanana has only himself to blame for selecting him in his squad. Ferres was really unlucky not to get the call in the first place. You have to balance the benefits of Hock (really aggressive runner who can break the line seemingly at will and with good hands) against the drawbacks (everything else). Without him in the team, Wigan have won 2 SLs and 2 CCs. He just isn't worth the hassle.

Interesting actions going on at the RLF meeting, 6 clubs (seemingly lead by Wigan)walking out of the vote, Wigan, Warrington, Catalan, Hull FC, Hull KR and Huddersfield being the clubs in question.

I'm very confused by all this and can't quite see what the endgame that the six clubs have in mind, but at the same time, I can see why they would want to talk about the financial and governance issues if the SL is going to be reduced to 12 teams. However, for clubs like Wakey, Salford, Cas, London, it seems like the turkeys are voting for Christmas!?!? Confused.

It just has to be over sponsorship, gave away free sponsorship to Stobart, thereby setting a precedent, no sponsor next year, no sponsor for the World Cup and now they are proposing the restructure with virtually no funds to do it.
