Shifter problem resolved, ordered an 11sp Ultegra gruppo :D

lol speaking of shifters when I was in town looking for chain ring bolts some guy in front of me asked if they had any clickers and started doing shifter movements with his hands :D

I couldn't help but raise a smile:D

You can wreck the **** out of steel and just bend it back and it'll be fine. Steel pwns :D

But you'd have to hit a carbon frame pretty damn hard to break it. At some point we're getting an old Planet X carbon frame that's being scrapped and we're hoping to saw it in half to see how it's made. One half we'll probably polish up the cut edge and inspect it under the microscope for the layup and voids in the plies, then the other half we'll use for mechanical testing. See what it can actually take compared to any other bike frame. It's not to specifically put Planet X to the test in any way, it just happens to be one of their frames and we want to see how a well used carbon frame holds up. It's had a hard life and has plenty of visual delamination under the lacquer layer from various impacts and we're really interested to see if the damage goes any further in.

All this talk of carbon frames with 105 etc being expensive. I reckon I got lucky as my bike is full carbon with 105 everything for 825 at the beginning of the year. It's not the lightest and wheels weren't great. But what do you expect at that price point?

Disc-compatible? That seems to be what drives the price up. That said, £1k for carbon/disc/105 seems cheap to me, not expensive :)

Meh, I've had my giant defy advanced for over two years now. Carbon frame and then 105 (current 10sp tiagra), shifting is utterly spot on and I still love it. Rides like it did when I first got it, so if I was in the market for a decent bike at a budget I wouldn't hesitate to go second hand.

Looking forward to when I can upgrade my roadie though.

Strava seems to be knocking off bits of my rides today, my commute was 2 miles shorter and tonights group ride was 21m at 22mph, Strava reckons 18m at 18mph.

Anyone else experiencing the same?

Edit - uploaded to Endomondo then exported back out to Strava and seems ok now.

meh disc brakes while nice to have is not a priority in my case.. getting the best bang for buck is what I want and alu frame is perfect.. shame that most ~1k bikes come with carbon and tiagra groupo... id love to see more 1k with alu/steel and better groupo/wheelset and brakes.

You'd be mad to buy a cross bike without discs now if you actually intend to do any cross on it as just the reduced mud/grass/leaf build makes them worth while. Mini V's aren't all that much worse in terms of stopping compared to bb7's though.

I want a CX for mudguard clearance to use as my main all-year-round bike :) roadies are cool and I only commute on my main bike and disks would be great but in my case not essential..

yeah strava says my avg speed for e.g. is 15.6 while my motoactv said it was 17.4 and endomondo always shows the correct distance and avg speed.. I guess they use a different way to get the final value but then how can AVG speed be different.. makes no SENSE what so ever.. shame that endomondo sucks in every possible way.. upload 1 workout at a time? cmon.. I have 250+ workouts to upload there and I'm not going to do that one-by-one.

Evening,

My work is just starting to do the ride to work scheme, so am thinking of buying a new road bike. I have a couple of questions really though if anyone can answer.

I am looking at a Moser: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/moser-bikes-111-ultegra-2013/

Was wondering if anyone has any experience of these as a bike? I know people that have Trek's, Scott's etc, but don't know anyone that has owned a Moser so was wondering what they are like. Seems to have good reviews on Wiggle.

Also, and probably the more important question, is it okay to put money towards the bike to work scheme. Obviously they will only allow you up to £1000 (our company does not have a CCL), and was hoping I could just put the rest to it.

Thanks.
