Who here has climbed Holme Moss? Or Snake Pass? I'm looking at the Tour stages in Yorkshire next year (longing for next summer already...) and planning on heading out to Holmfirth on the Sunday. I'll probably be heading back to Glossop from Holmfirth, to get the train back to my side of Manchester, so I'm looking at taking in some of the big climbs while I'm in that neck of the woods.

How are they? Tough?

Ooh, wow, just looking on Strava... The A635 up Holmfirth Road (I'd be coming in from Oldham Metro station) is a cat 2. Holmfirth up to Holme Moss is a cat 2. Snake Pass from the Glossop side is a cat 2.

That'd be quite a day.

I might give a medium a go, if it doesn't fit, ill just return it

although I never cycle in the rain, be handy if it does rain when im out and good for freezing days and windy days (windproof?)

and when I do a sportif next year and its a wet day, I can use it

What does WXB mean on this Jacket?

You can always return it if it doesn't fit. Amazon returns are awesome.

Done them all although not necessarily the uphill way!

Snake Pass from Glossop is a fantastic climb, nice and steady, stunning views. Only downside is it gets extremely busy with traffic. I rode it before 9am one Saturday morning and it was fine, wouldn't recommend any later than that though as the Sheffield Manchester traffic doesn't hang about.

I've done Holme Moss from the Woodhead side and that was pretty tough but steady. It's exposed up there and the wind adds an extra element of difficulty. The "proper" side is definitely tougher, shorter but a fair bit steeper and even more exposed. Got caught out by a crosswind when I was descending here.

The A635 is one of the best descents I've ever done anywhere, including the Alps. It'd make a nice gradual climb back up as well.

Need to get back to doing those sort of rides!

Snapped one of those Pearl Izumi jackets, thanks uniQ. Worried the small might be too big having seen that chart but my M Pearl Izumi windproof is only a little on the big side, so the S would be perfect if they size the same.

Cheers for this dude. Snapped up one in a small so will see what it's like.

Agree re the wind at the mo. Every time I've been out this week the cross winds have been brutal. They've been cutting hedges too so thorns all mixed in with the leaves. Lovely. :(

Anyone vouch for these? Half the price of others.
I have other PX stuff and it seems decent quality.
Graham

I have a pair, they fit nicely and the fleece lining is warmer than plain lycra (it's the same sort of material that most of my arm warmers are made of). The only complaint i have is that they have a weird strap around the bottom that goes under your heel. Normally i wouldnt mind that, but it seems to have been attached the wrong way and you need to twist them 90 degrees that that the strap is lined up to go under your foot. (my dad also has a different pair of PX bibtights with the same strap, so it's not like mine were a 1-off mistake  )

I also have a pair of these. They are warmer than the PX ones with a thicker wind-block sort of material on the front of your legs which seems pretty good so far (not had them out on a properly cold ride yet).
