2013 Haswell Retina MacBook Pro...

Got mine today, Wow, this thing flies. Also, battery life, I have been doing stuff for 15 minutes on a VM and it has only just dropped to 99%. The screen is the best thing I have ever seen, it seems like an improvement over the older retina screens, though I think they are Samsung now.

Absolutely fine. I drive a 27" 2560*1440 monitor from a 2012 MBA. The scaled resolutions are for the rMBP own screen and nothing to do with external monitors.

Scroll down to Graphics in the tech specs:

Awesome thanks for explaining. Had a look online but the information I found was misleading when it talked about display mirroring, it seems like it would only do supported resolutions.

Thanks!

which model did you go for in the end?

I'll be ordering mine tomorrow

Unless I change my mind it will be the base spec 15" with 16GB RAM

still think you should go for 16GB Glen, iris pro munches up to 2GB ram leaving you 6GB, run a few apps and vids and you'll start getting tight on performance

I got the 15" top spec. I thought about that a lot, but then I added the 512GB SSD and then it was a small jump to the top spec. I did get a 7% discount through work though, so it may not be small for you. If I didnt get the discount, I would have gone the same way as you

I run the same resolution monitor (27" 2560*1440) from a 2011 MBA, and also fine. You need to make sure you use the correct cable if you want higher resolutions. In my case, my monitor has a Display Port and a DVI-D (amongst others), so my PC uses the DVI-D and I've got a cheap Mini-DP to DP cable from here for my Air.

yeah, I'm pretty sure my mind is made up now. You know what it's like when spending that kinda money, always second guessing yourself.

at the end of the day, it works out at £130 extra for the 16gb upgrade for me. Considering i'm spending £1,400 anyway, I might aswell spend another £130 if only for piece of mind. Would hate to seeing a small stutter and starting thinking 'if only id gone for the 16gb model' lol

there was a brief period when I was gonna go all out and get the top spec, but when I thought about it....I really dont need 512gb ssd and I REALLY dont need the graphics card. The 16gb base model feels right for me :D

Anyone got the Iris Pro only version? Just want to know how performance is.

from what ive read, other than gaming, it's pretty much the best graphics you can get at the minute

I wouldn't play the latest games on it though if that's what your after, but if its image/video work you need then from what i'm hearing, it's supposed to be a beast

I have ordered the 2.3, 16Gb, 256Gb, Iris Pro version last week. Just interested if anyone has one.

Starting to notice this lag more and more, especially after using my Air for quite a bit yesterday, it's much smoother, that's on Mountain Lion mind.

Need to know if this is likely OS related, as if it's going to be like this all the time i'll probably send it back :(

I tried the older 13" retina, new 13" retina and 15" retina today in store.

The lag now is clearly down to the hardware, the old 13" retina still lags a lot even on Mavericks, the new 13" retina lag is a lot less, sites like the the verge are super smooth now which is great. However there was some lag during animation, for example, in about my mac when you switch between the hard drive tab and the display tab it lags. The 15" retina had no such tab that I could notice. The model I tried had the iris pro 5200.

It seems the 5100 is really good but just not enough still. I will wait a bit and also try my 13" but I have a feeling I will return if it's not good enough.

So even the old 13inch had lag issues? Was it fixed and was there a massive recall on it?

edit: a few hours ago i checked this link https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5481839?start=360&tstart=0 and it was about down to 16 pages of many people having issues. now its on page 26 and no word from apple about this issue.

Putting me off buying the 13inch as i really wanted to get one.

It is now a toss up betwen a samsung 13inch i saw the other day which had an amazing screen and build quality or a 15inch macbook pro retina

Do you think the standard Iris graphics should be sufficient to run Lightroom smoothly and maybe the odd bit of photoshop?

Really lovely setup you have there :)

Thank you Chives, I use to chase fast women, but since I can't catch them up any more. I've slowed down to a more constructive hobby, photography :)

The desk is untidy for me, normally its clutter free.

I haven't been on here for a while, I've been going on the photography forums, I was searching for a question on the net, which bought me to this thread today

Wow, that's a really nice setup you have!
Are those all iMacs or are they the cinema displays?
I guess from your first post the new standard iris graphics is fine then for lightroom and Photoshop?
Really considering a macbook pro now, probably sam spec as your 13".
Just wasn't sure if i needed the better graphics of the 15"

Nice ship photos too - you work on them?
