*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

So to buck the trend I'm seriously considering cancelling the PS4 preorder as Driveclub has been pulled from launch and there aren't really any games I'm bothered about playing
DC was the thing which sucked me in, because I'm intrigued by what the new tech can do for my favourite genre, and DC sounded like it might be a bit more of a sim than most titles. This was always reliant on it working with my G27 though; can't stand racing with a controller.

So I've been letting my £20 ASDA preorder lapse. But the swine keep giving me a deadline to finish the order, then another deadline, and now I'm on my third deadline, which is making me weak. I mean, what if the PS4 really *is* a lot better (in long term performance potential) than the XBO and it's hard to get hold of a PS4 for ages once the news gets out?

But realistically there's nothing apart from Resogun which intrigues me now, and as a PC gamer the only full price title I've bought in recent years is Last of Us. And while that was worth every single penny, I'm not really in the market for full price single player console games (I'm not into multiplayer at all), and it makes sense to sit back for a couple of years and wait for some discounts, and for the dust to settle... and the hardware bugs to be ironed out!

So I just need to be strong and ignore ASDA's emails for another week or so.

Actually another factor is the strength of Sony's PS+ offering for the PS3. I have quite a few good titles to investigate now, so there's no pressure to move to the new console. They've kind of shot themselves in the foot there, a little... though serious console gamers will have a much bigger games library and be getting much less benefit from PS+. So I may be a niche case here.

Id say DC sits around Forza to Forza Horizons level of driving physics - at no point have I thought its gonna rival Forza or GT on that account.

Ive actually more positive about DC since the delay as previously it was a free extended demo to try that I was very likely to upgrade, but now Im toying with getting it outright. Things that really are making it standout is the tech they are attempting and if they obtain 60fps Ill be insanely impressed...

The more I see the more I like and I have to say, it needed the delay - deferred lighting, global illumination, night/day cycle with weather - its all pretty promising from a launch game. Hell I doubt PD will do much better...

Well weather was gonna be patched in before the delay so Id expect so, hopefully might mean they get it in at launch

One thing I hope they've changed/sorted out in the next gen is the trophy syncing, it takes too long the xbox is instant. Just makes things such a ballache when checking them after unlocking one.

That was a late add-on to the PS3 so you can be sure they'll have it integrated better for PS4.

This is going to be a tough month. I need to get all my Summative work done before the release date. BF4 isn't helping.

I thought they said weather had a possibility of being patched in at a later date before the delay. I got a nasty feeling we won't get weather at all, and if we do it probably won't look as good as everything else. Hope I'm wrong

This has to be sorted, the trophy checking system is pure trash at the moment. Sometimes even after syncing once it tries to sync again when you want to check your trophies a second time. Even with plus where you tell it to sync your trophies when it checks for updates does not work. Ms got it spot on.

From what I understand, the PS4 allows you to play music or your choice at the same time of playing games rather than the in game music.

It would be a nice if it did support mp3 so I can store my music to take full advantage of this feature, rather than having to sub to the music channel or re-buying tracks again. But I don't think I've ever used my ps3 as music player.

I see that the XB1 will not play MP3s, only stream video via play to on your PC, think they also have some xbox music subscription thing if you want music, but it will play CDs.

I haven't seen this? But did see this, which doesn't require any subscription stuff (yet, but they'll probably make it for Gold members).

But the funny thing is, my 360 didn't either, as putting music onto consoles was pretty hopeless and time consuming.

DLNA for movie streaming is a much bigger miss than having some of your music on the console.

I found the ps3 usless to me when it came to media streaming etc. Bought myself a wdtv and never looked back, Having my own music in games only really worked for Wipeout (This being gone is more of a issue for me!)

It shouldn't have DNLA/MP3/BlueRay support. It's a gaming machine.

Nonsense, consoles haven't been "gaming machines" for years.

Could the PS4 theoretically output 2 XBone like graphics on two different screens? For example 1080p is more than double the pixels of 720p, so in a game like cod could the PS4 output 2 x 720Ps?

No, because you have no way of connecting two displays.
