2013 Haswell Retina MacBook Pro...

I'm really not sure whether to pull the trigger on a 13" retina.
I've got a Haswell 256GB i5 MBA 13 and I love it. I hate the screen though as it's got poor viewing angles and isn't exactly high resolution after spending my day looking at an HTC One, an IP5S or a Retina iPad.

The problem is, my MBA is worth about £800 on the used market and the MBP I want costs £1249. I can't decide if the screen is worth the £450 it will cost me to change.
What do you think?

I am not sure it is worth 450 to change! I had an air but sent it back within 2 weeks as I knew the new retinas were due and I couldn't live with the air screen plus wanted to run 2 displays in the office.

I loved the air, and the battery life was amazing, but the screen and the fan noise on load was what prompted me to return it. If I ran a game in bootcamp on the air the fans went to 6000rpm instantly whereas the retina usually tops out at 3500rpm.

Just installed windows 7 on my 15" rMBP with the 750m. It runs BF3 at 30-45 FPS without AA at high on 1920x1200. Pretty powerful machine. It looks stunning at that resolution too. I even found at 1440x900 most games still look really good. Also been playing Skyrim (but my numerous mods didn't transfer over too well so can't play my old save games), Arma 3 and Rome 2, which runs like a beast at 40 FPS at 1600x1050(not entirely sure on the exact res) on relatively high settings.

Has anyone attempted an overclock on the GPU? I know people were doing it with the previous generation.

Mike

Also Is the " and @ meant to be the American way even on UK keyboard.

It's the 'Apple' way. You'll get used to it :p

Upgraded from a '12 MBA. As a dev it was well worth it for the higher resolutions. The screen is incredible though I can't see myself being able to go back to non retina.

After a few days using mine, so glad I went with the top spec. I use the RAM so quickly, also go through 100GB of storage already. I have had 2 lock ups so far, not sure if it is the intel graphics switching causing it, so I might try with auto switching off and stick with nvidia, intel dont seem to have got the drivers right yet.

I bought the 13" base model last Monday. I like it so much I'm wishing I'd gone for the next model up, the 2.4/8GB/256GB.

As I'm still within the 14 day period would I be able to take it back tomorrow and just pay the extra £150 to get the next model up?

Should I format before taking it back or anything?

Going to phone the store this afternoon and ask but just wanted to see if anyone here knew?

As long as you have not damaged it, you can take it back

You can take it back. If you plan to keep it for a few years definitely worth the upgrade imo.

I went w/ the 2.6/16 and it flies :)

Yeah I would recommend at least 8gb of ram. My machine boots up using 4gb without anything open. I do understand Maverick can compress the ram and it normally shows that my memory pressure is very very low, even with a lot open so I think 8gb should last a good amount of time.

Following on from Fridays successful MacBook Air deal I've been told the new 13" Pro Retina (normally £1099) will be £899 from Monday morning at 6:30am. There limited stock though do be quick.

Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to find out.

Sorry, this deals happening at Play.com tomorrow. :-)

It seems when I use an external monitor, the graphics switching doesnt work that well and causes my lock ups. I turned off the switching and have had no issues so far, might be an issue with the graphics processor on my mac :/

Bah, went to town today and everywhere is sold out of the 13" 256GB model.

Oh well, online ordering time then.

I ordered mine online Sunday night and had it delivered 4 days later!

The more I use it the more I love it. Getting amazing battery life too, thought it would be a big drop coming from a 2013 air but actually getting 11+ hours light surfing!

Also the speakers are a lot better than the 13" air

Ordered the 13" 8GB/256GB model just now. First ever Mac!

It's replacing an ageing 3 year old Sony Vaio. :)

You will love it, I have had mine for a weekend and its great, some things are weird and I will need to adapt to the 'apple' way, even if its crazy about overall no windows machine comes close.

So no input on cases for the 13" then?

I have been looking around for the misses but I couldn't find an updated version.
