Verge review up

http://www.theverge.com/2013/11/4/5062724/google-nexus-5-review

The 8-megapixel camera on the back of the Nexus 5 is certainly capable of taking rather beautiful photos in the perfect setting. Unfortunately for us, life is not filled with perfect settings — and when you're faced with real-world picture taking, the camera underperforms constantly and consistently.

Joy. It will still be better than my Gnex :D

What Speedtest results are people getting on the 3 network? I've only managed 5Mbps best result so far. :(

3's coverage map says i should have DC-HSDPA in this area. Others i've seen so far on xda are getting 23Mbps!

I'm getting 23.18Mbps down and 3.61Mbps which is pretty much the same as I was getting on the Nexus 4. I'm in a DC-HSDPA area.

Do you have another phone you can use to troubleshoot which is having the problem, the network or the phone?

Anyone elses Nexus 5 have dead pixels?

I have a large group with one off to the side, Im going to have to get a replacement :(

Unlucky stoosh - have you called Google customer service?

Yep...and there's nothing they can do except put a note on my account that i called to complain about Parcelforce.

It doesn't help me much...I just want my Nexus 5. I'm so flipping angry

Mine's got quite noticeable light bleed on the top left and top right corners, far more than I expect anyway.

My cheap Chinese phone didn't have this much noticeable screen bleed :D

I have to vent....so apologies in advance...

Parcel Force are a bunch of t****rs. My Nexus 5 has been loaded on the vehicle for delivery since 0657 this morning....and guess what? No delivery...

I'm so irate, how can Google entrust shipping their phones with this poor excuse for a company.

I called their customer services and they insisted that the phone will be delivered today...and guess what they outright lied to me.

I'm disgusted. How do I go about making a complaint to Google about Parcelforce?

It looks like it depends on the driver! Mines always here by 10am and the closest depot is 15 miles away.. It was in the vehicle for delivery since Saturday morning and delivered today at 9:30 ish

I don't, but it's sounding increasingly like it's just the network coverage here, rather than an inherent fault with the devices. I''ll have to do more testing in other areas. Thanks for the reply.

Nice little tip for some of you to try. Go into Settings -> About Phone. Then tap "Build Number" about 8 times to unlock "Developer Options" in the main Settings.

Next go into Developer options and scroll down to "Window animation scale", "Transition animation scale", and "Animator duration scale" and set them all to "Animation off".

This switched my phone from lightning fast to literally instant. Test out and see if you like it. I prefer it personally.

My iphone battery doesn't even last a day at work now so I have to change but....... S4 or this :(

I fill my phone with photos and also music to listen to at work! I guess I've answered it myself here but the S4 would most likely be a better buy!

Never base choices on battery and camera based on The Verge reviews. They are good for getting an overview but they really suck at actual testing.

If you really want to make an informed decision wait for Anandtech.

hehe, I am still around kona, mike and richy! :D :p Just not spending as much time in this sub forum, too busy with a few pc games (mainly bf 4 :D) and other stuff in life lately :)

Haven't really followed much on the nexus 5 or this thread but it seems like a good device overall and for once it appears that it has a camera that competes with the other flagship devices!?

Design is nice, not too fussed on the back.

Screen looks good overall but as usual I rather have SAMOLED any day.

And everything else seems to be really good aside from possibly the speaker.... haven't heard/read much about battery life yet though....

As to if I will be buying one, not just yet, still don't really feel the need to upgrade from my S except to get the latest updates quickly.

Liking kit kat a lot though, just a shame google are dropping the blue holo theme :(

Also, it was such a stupid move that google didn't hold a live presentation for this.........

Yeah, a combination of Anadntech and GSMArena tends to give a good basis for making a decision on.

Both can sometimes be a bit opinionated, but generally they give detailed analysis source numbers, and full resolution photos, so you can make your own decision anyway.
