*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

Don't know if its been discussed before but Google are testing a new system called ART which will eventually replace DALVIK, The aim is to increase efficiency, execution times and improve battery. I have had it enabled on my N5 for about 12 hours now, will know what impact it has on the battery by the end of the day. Here's a bit more detail:

My mate has one of these and he is fuming about how poor the battery is. Does he have a dodgy unit or is the battery really that bad? Really want a nexus 5 to replace my iPhone 5 and go back to android but I'm a bit worried by this. That and the fact you can't buy one due to stock issues

The first few charges the phone zips through, possibly as it's doing some things in background with just being set up etc. Once the phone has settled the battery life is good.

Interesting stuff! Does it break already-installed apps?

Please let us know how this goes!

I'm going to go with the "it's erratic" and "depends on how you use it" answers, yesterday I managed to go from 100% to 50% by listening to music for roughly 1 hour (streamed), web browsing for roughly 50 mins and making 1 short (30 seconds?) phone call over a period of slightly more than 4 hours.

It's not been a problem otherwise.

I just gave it a go and it broke whatsapp, uninstalling and trying to reinstall just gave an unspecified error so I've got back to the old method for the time being.

You don't need to plug it in. Use airdriod. Amazing WiFi app

Will try it out Mate, is there a file size limit that you can transfer across? ( am thinking of transferring movies)

Secondly I need the laptop to see the phone because eventually I'd want to root it and unlock the boot loader which is a pain in the bum if the laptop doesn't see the N5!

It's not blazing but it's more than fast enough for most files, I've just plugged my N5 into my works pc and it gets picked up fine so it looks like it's down to the mismash of random phone drivers left on my home laptop.

I'm kind of thinking the same, tried the N5 on my XP laptop and still the same issue. I'm going to give it a go on my sisters laptop if not Im going to call Google Tech support and get it sorted. I really like the phone and don't want to send it back. If I can wirelessly transfer files to it and still be able to unlock the boot loader and root it using the USB lead (because the ADB drivers install) then I'll be happy to keep it.

You don't need to be able to see the phone in "My Computer" for the Fastboot and ADB connections to work I unlocked and rooted mine the other day from my laptop.

I'm finding it really poor. With location and Google Now disabled, it's been off charge for 2 1/2 hours with 3 mins screen time and it's at 96%. This is better than it has been...

Did you report the error when it pops up with 'Unfortunately, Whatsapp has stopped working'
Will help getting it fixed quicker maybe.

I suspect there's something going on with some common apps or something. Battery results seem to vary so wildly. Some are proclaiming the battery life to be amazing while others are having a tough time with it.

Something must be causing the inconsistencies somewhere. Mine seems to give me nearly double the battery life of my Nexus 4, so thankfully I don't seem to be getting the problems.

Hopefully apps like BetterBatteryStats will be fixed soon and we can see what's going on.

Why does my Photos app icon look different. In the drawer it looks like the guys screenshots above but on the launcher it looks like the one on the middle far right below:

So battery results seem to be erratic so far. Would definitely consider one of these, if they actually get some stock in. Not sure I like black with a white back, looks a little odd. Would want the all black model.

If I'm not doing anything on mine I get about 1% battery loss per hour with Google Now, location services, wifi, 3G, Bluetooth and push emails all enabled..

Currently on 1 day 3 hours off the hook, with 52% battery and 1hour 20mins screen time.

Compared to my S4 the whites are very good, but the blacks... and in dark environment... not good.
Also the vibrate thing is really dodgy, feels so cheap compared to the S4. Either ringing or even feedback when typing... Not sure if I'll keep it at the moment..
