lol tvlicensing

is it a criminal offence?

I thought it was a civil law which is why the police can only keep the peace when they come with tv goons

Off course it's a criminal offence, it is a TAX

They can do anything as they have no justification for entering your house as they need a warrant.

It’s against the law to watch or record TV programmes as they're being shown on TV without a valid licence. This includes the use of devices such as a TV, computer, mobile phone, games console, digital box or DVD/VHS recorder.
Watching TV without a valid licence is a criminal offence. This can lead to prosecution, a court appearance and a fine of up to £1,000 (not including legal costs). The exceptions are in Guernsey where the maximum fine is £2,000 and Jersey it is £500.

In which case you're not meant to pay...

That's like saying 'Personally, I'll never pay road tax for the reason I don't drive' - great, well done for not paying something you don't have to :p
pedantic mode/ technically you don’t pay road tax even if you do drive.

I got an email from Morrisons CS today after I sent on the other day asking about this new ruling.

Good afternoon Mr S

Thank you for your email.

I can advise that the Wireless Telegraphy Act of 1967 (as amended) has been repealed meaning that from 25 June 2013 onwards, TV dealers are no longer required to notify TV Licensing when they sell or rent out TV equipment.

I hope this is of use.

Kindest regards

Most of the posts I have seen in this thread are along the lines of "I know I could spend 1 minute to fill in a form online to stop these letters being sent to me. Letters which mean nothing and could just be put in the bin but annoy me anyway. I won't fill this form in because I refuse to give them my information as they have no right to know it."

Well, I just had a look at the online declaration form. Name is optional. Phone number is optional. Email you could just use anything, or if you wan't a temporary email from some website that lasts an hour. The only other information asked for was the address, which if they are sending you letters they clearly have already. The only information they gain from you is that you don't need a TV license so no need to keep sending letters.

So frankly the argument of not spending 1 minute to stop all the letters because they have no right to your details is complete ********.

You don't have to give them that information but i'm pretty certain you'll soon have a TVL knocking on your door to make you sign some forms.

TVL can't make you do anything - TVL are just ordinary members of the public with all the authority that comes with being a member of the public, despite calling themselves "Enforcement Officers".

Its NOT a legal requirement to have a TV licence providing your NOT watching a live broadcast.

You can have your TV connected to SKY, or even have an aerial plugged in to the back of the TV, as long as the TV is switched off and not receiving then that's fine.

Your NOT obligated to answer any questions or provide any details about your self to the TV Licence goons. The less you say the better.

If you do provide them your details then they can summon you to court, they can NOT summon you to court if they don't have any details of you.

You do NOT have to let them in to your home even if they turn up with a warrant, the police if involved will only be there to prevent breach of peace but may try siding with the goon which might be intimidating if you don't know your rights with the warrant.

The TV licence vans with monitoring equipment are not very accurate so can't be 100% sure that it's you and not your neighbour that's watching TV, In order to be granted a search warrant they will have lied on oaf suggesting they have concrete evidence to be granted it under the communications Act 2003,

Statues and Act's are NOT Law, the warrant is useless unless you give your consent for them to search your property. DO NOT GIVE THEM CONSENT!

The police are there to uphold common law such as committing breach of peace, causing harm or loss to an individual, not act on statues or act's which can slide in to civil law.

This is purely a civil matter and not criminal. the goons will try to scare anyone just for their £20 commission fee.

Sorry buddy, but the 'Statutes and Acts are only given the force of law with consent' is a load of rubbish - see how far it gets you with plod.

Their payment plan is just plain madness, I was paying quarterly until I found out that it costs more, so I switched to monthly, but they want me to pay £29 a moth for six months then £12 a month, so I'm paying for 1.5x a tv licence in 12 months they swear blind it's correct but it bloody isn't!

You're just paying in advance, they are right. Its not costing you more.

Not when I've been paying quarterly up until now it's not, if it was my first licence them yeah, I'm half tempted just to cancel it all and see what happens then at the last minute buy one outright, it's a bloody joke and a waste of money

H god, qaurterly is different to monthly.
Paying monthly you pay six months in adavance. So first 6mon ths you pay double, then after that its the normal price and your 6months in front of the payments.
Its all explained on the website, i dont egt how you are thinking like that.

But he payment plan shows the double payment for six months then the normal payment for like ever, so yes I am paying more in the first six months, there's no break in payments, like you get with water etc paying 12 in 10months
