Don't know if this should be here or in La Cuisine. Move it if needs be.

A lot of people here have eaten foreign food, I'd like to think we all have, even if it's just a Lamb Bhuna. But then there are some people who won't even do that.

Now I like to think that there is absolutely anything I'd try, at least once. I've eaten everything from crickets to cow intestines and zebra meat and a couple of weeks ago I tried some isi ewu, or Nigerian goat brains.

However, I think I just met my match. In a supermarket I found an Iranian drink called doogh. Can't be that bad, I thought, maybe it's like Turkish ayran, which is really nice [similar to lassi, sort of]. After one go I thought "hmmm could be OK", the second nearly made me throw up. Now, maybe I just didn't get a good brand but this is not for me. A carbonated yoghurt drink with added pepper. The rest of it is nestling nice in the bin.

So, adventurous food trypes of OCUK, what is the most "exotic" food or drink you've had, and which did you like and which did you hate?

Best - Brazilian BBQ'd chicken hearts. I ate 53 they were so good.

Worst - Swedish surstromming. I had to try it once, Just once. Never againn.

Crocodile: Very nice and tender, doesn't really taste like any other meat.
Snake: Tasted ok, bit like chicken, but was tough to chew.
Fried Locus: Crunchy! Just tasted like fried batter as it was so small.
Fried Scorpion: Even more crunchy! Tasted like beef.
Chicken Feet: Agree with BombayMix; not nice!

Off to La Cuisine we go :)

Most luxurious food I had was the tasting menu at the fat duck, far too many dishes to mention but the highlight was eating the condiments and plant on the table :D

Worst - Dog ate it in Vietnam without knowing and it was horrible nasty tough stuff then I found out it was dog which made it somewhat worse!

My most exotic would be rattlesnake. It came in patties, similar to fishcakes I guess. Really nice, too.

Zebra jerky has been my most exotic. Tasted a lot like beef jerky.

When I had a zebra steak it tasted and looked just like beef.... In fact I'm still not sure if they just swapped it... (Reputable Zambian restaurant!).

Kudu, crocodile and ostrich taste much more original, but then zebra is basically horse, which tastes like beef anyway...

Termite is nice and minty, although really difficult to get in your mouth and chew; tiny and they run around quite fast!

I love Durian fruit which is often hit or miss for people.

I love "spare parts" i.e. offal. So that's not weird or exotic for me.

I enjoy snails too.

Kibbeh Nayyeh is a Lebanese raw lamb dish which is absolutely delicious.

I think fish eyes and lambs brains are probably the least enjoyable of foods.

I'll try everything once. :)

I've had lamb's testicles. They were all right, but dipping them in cumin actually made them rather enjoyable.

Would I have them again? Yes, as long as there's beer on the table!

I tried caviar once because it's considered 'luxury' food.. I couldn't stand the feeling and texture of them popping in your mouth. Ew. Worst I've ever had.

Not exactly exotic...

Rat or "Forest pig" as it was sometimes referred to in Namibia. Marinaded in the local hooch and something resembling BBQ sauce, surprisingly good as I recall.

Goat - probably one of the best curries I've ever had in this country. Home made by an ex's mum.

Elk - standard fair across Scandinavia and I was in a decent restaurant in Tallinn. Sadly I'd equate it to having ordered salted backside.

Worst has to be while on holiday in spain as a kid. My dad brought some meat back from the supermarket. It tasted like chicken and fish that had gone off. I noticed he wasn't eating any and had a grin on his face when I asked what the hell it was he laughed and said el burro!
