Goooooogle blocks 100,000 search terms for kiddyporn!

Where there's a will there's a way. I don't think it will have much impact to be honest.

Controversial, but any "good" pedophile will be smart about what they're doing and are unlikely to go typing things into Google.

Something I don't get: why in recent years is it called "child sexual abuse images"? Should have stuck with "child pr0n" tbh... less syllables! Another example, but to a lesser extent, is ICT as opposed to IT. Why pad out a term with more syllables that was fine in the first place?

Pornography can have a positive slant on it as the parties involved are, you hope, engaged in agreed activities. You can't say the same thing about sexual abuse.

If you're worried about the number of syllables in a term such as child abuse then I'd suggest you're focussing on the less important element.

Silly policies designed to subdue the technically illiterate but knee jerk people like my Dad who don't even use computers. The media will use Google and the internet as if they are interchangeable, my dad thinks Google own the internet and any child pr0n on it is somehow their fault.

He's happy now.

That's true yes. My angle wasn't the porn itself but the terms, that I think are too long. Another example I just remembered is the dustman / bin man, but in the job ad they're called "waste disposal technician" :D

As someone who works in the industry they are called "loaders" here (or 'drivers' if they drive obviously). I still call them 'bin men' though to much annoyance from my colleagues.

They'll just drive it underground in much the same fashion as the fight on piracy, sure some of the casual people will stop, however it'll have presumeably no effect on these organised rings you hear about.

Am I the only one who sees this as a slippery slope? Current news articles on the subject suggests the content which the government is proposing to block isn't actually sought via mainstream search engines. So this isn't really that practical but DC bolsters his reputation as the caped crusader.

But Jim Gamble, former head of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (Ceop), told BBC Breakfast he did not think the measures would make any difference with regard to protecting children from paedophiles.

Is this the beginning of Internet censorship? Will we end up like China years from now? Don't confuse my point with the real issue. The people that seek such material are heinous individuals who need help, but I fear where this will end up. Bit like the misuse of anti terror powers/legislation - blocking Google/Bing search phrases maybe extended to other matters.

100000? is that even possible? poor sod that had to type them all in.

How in the nine hells are there 100,000 phrases that only paedophiles use?

Guess we better not search for "child", "children", or "get in my van I have free candy" any more :(
