*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

Tempted to get another console now and thinking of going down the ps4 route.

The main game I really want to play is gran tourismo but am I correct in saying that it's not going to be launched for another year or so?

GT6 is ps3 only (at the minute) it's supposed to be coming out on the 6th of December but I wouldnt be 100% confident in that date given Polyphony's recent track record :p

The gamestop controller is tempting but will it arrive for release I can't risk getting my console and not opening the black one to wait for the blue one to arrive hmm

A ton of people jumped on pre orders for them a month or so back when they went live, it would worry me whether they'd have enough for release.

cool , but I worry about heating issues with 7200rpm?

Yes me too. Though there's not been anything to say its not ok to use a 7200rpm, the standard issue from Sony is still 5400rpm. So i think I'll stick to that. Loading times are not really all that much of an issue for me.

I have some 1TB 5400rpm drives in my PS3's i could just swap too, but ugh all the hassle. Not swapping the PS4, but backing up the PS3 !! They've been getting some good use, ever since joining PSN+

Maybe just easier to buy new 1TB's 5400's and slap into the PS4's

Also in terms of voice control, how many people use SIRI or Google voice?

I only ever use it to set an alarm, otherwise NEVER. I absolutely HATE with a passion, phone systems that ask you to tell them what you want.

I see voice control as more of a nuisance than a feature. I've not even tried it on the PS4 and I have no intentions of trying it either.

The novelty quickly wore off when I first got my iPhone 4S, which was now well over two yrs ago.

Hang on, Madden download on USA PS Store is 60 dollars... its 50 quid retail here...

So either our download prices are going to be as cheap in comparison.. ie 37 quid

OR are we being stitched up...

AND can I just not have a US account.. fake address etc but use my UK visa card to buy the games?

What would be the issue with going that route? Would disc based games not pickup that im using the wrong address? Or multiplayer servers for example, would I be stuck on US servers etc?

For almost 10-15 quid, its worth doing imo - if there are no downsides to it

You need a US credit card or US PSN credit and likely to have to buy US versions of DLC aswell as US PS+ to play online with. Its more than possible if the savings worthwhile...

Also I dont know if PS store prices include state taxes until you go to the checkout

I'm gonna wait until I can stick in a 2TB one.

You don't pay state taxes.

It's been a while but I'm sure the taxes are added AFTER you go to checkout stage. In other words the prices stated on the site are not the prices you will pay. It's about 10% tax over there isn't it? I've certainly seen tax added on because I would load money on an entropay card, then go to buy the game and because of the added tax during checkout I didn't have enough on the card - so had to put more on

I'd be a little worried about going 100% US account myself because at the end of the day they could change it so that you can't do it and then you lose all that content. But if the savings are enough, maybe it's worth the risk.

But didn't they change things on the PSN to make it more awkward, or am I remembering something that never existed??? lol (probably).

Given that I've always used 7200rpm drives in laptops/PS3s and not had an issue, I wouldn't worry.

My current PS3 is buried in the middle of an AV rack, not far from a surround amplifier, so it's not exactly room temperature.

The drive is also deep inside the PS3, whereas the drive is accessed at the top of the PS4, which may mean it's not so surrounded by hot components, and may actually run cooler from the offset.

I'd personally get the 7200rpm hybrid drive on offer now, if you want performance and extra capacity

The reason Sony offer 5400rpm by default is likely cost.
