Failure to go on school trip is now racist!

I can remember visiting a local mosque with my school back in about 1990, or even earlier. No big deal and the experience was forgotten about soon after. Perhaps the subliminal training hasn't resurfaced yet... ;)

For me it's the threatening, petulant and passive aggressive nature of that letter which antagonises me. I would have been down there looking all angry and lower class.

What a ridiculous thing for this school to do.

I think it's important that kids learn about the religions but it also needs to be made very clear that most of it is based on myths and fictional stories.

I was smart enough as a young child to question everything i was told in RE lessons, which i mostly remember as being Christianity. It helps that i loved science which constantly disproves religious myths.

I visited a mosque as part of religious education in school. Islam wasn't forced down my throat at any point during the visit. Christianity on the other hand was quite frequently forced down my throat in school outside of religious education.

That's probably because your parents sent you to a Christian school (probably because they are generally better). If they'd have sent you to an Islamic school like the Al-Madinah free school in Derby, where non-Muslim teachers are forced to wear the hijab, do you think Islam would have been "forced down your throat"?

BTW - did Christianity being "forced down your throat" work? i.e. are you a practicing Christian today?

I think the issue is more that it's not a religion with values in keeping with our society.

So it's better to remain completely ignorant to things which you don't agree with? You seemed pretty damn ignorant of many things in the Speaker's Corner thread. This just confirms why :p

Also, they're not being taught any Islamic values. They are being shown "artefacts in a museum like atmosphere".

Don't get me wrong though. Personally if I was in year 6, I'd go just to have the chance to go inside a university more than the Islam stuff itself. I can understand why the school was forceful though, racism and ignorance is rife these days and parents are a huge influence on their children. Somehow I doubt a lot of parents actively discourage their children from discriminating or distinguishing using skin colour or background etc.

I hope all this PC nonsense backfires and we have a generation of xenophobic BNP voters that see islam for the medieval-misogynistic culture that it really is.:D

In case you haven't noticed this is already happening, why do you think UKIP is getting so popular these days?

Slightly OT but I love the typical old Daily Fail 'Look as hard done by as possible' photo.

I thought I was the only one who noticed that particular hilarious expression. It doesn't apply in this case but it's even better when there's a woman looking hard done by who has quite clearly had a make-over before her photo.

The fact that the headmistress sat down, wrote that letter and thought it was fine to send out makes me question her ability to be a headmistress.

What would have really made the DM article would have been for it to go ahead and for a Muslim child to have missed it and been given a Racial Discrimination mark. Would have liked to have seen the headmistress squirm :D

Let's get rid of religious education.

I agree. I think 'Religion' should be a topic covered in a history lesson or two.

But on the other hand I think it should stay because it was basically a free lesson for 5 years of secondary school :D

Had some right laughs and the teacher was a legend. We always used to pick a film and someone would be appointed to download it and bring it in on a USB so we could put it straight on the projector. Half the class used to be stoned to high heaven. :p

Even better would be an atheist (or other belief) with e.g. Chinese, Afro-Caribbean or Hawai'ian origin/ancestry, missing the event, then to have the racial discrimination mark slapped onto them :p

Do all Muslim businessmen walk around wearing "I love Islam" badges? just because someone looks Muslim doesn't mean they are, what if NOT offering them a drink costs you a contract? ;)

Are Muslims really going to get offended by you offering them a drink anyway? it's rather childish if so.

No but on a lunch if the person offers the customer a pork sandwich and he says no thanks, I'm a muslim. And then the kid trys to offer a beer, guess who is going to look like an utter moron.

I certainly wouldn't be in a rush to sign a contract with this guy if this is his level of education / level of social awareness.

I read the thread title and said "I bet this is a daily mail article".

The newspaper should go pay to view to stop the spread of its dross

While I agree that this country needs to be educated on the positive sides of Islam, this kind of thing is actually adding to the problem, not preventing it. You can't play a race card on a bloody school trip.

But those chavs look like they could do with a good slapping.

Nope. However all the foreigners and segregated households need to be educated on how to fit in and put Britain first. Else what's the point letting them in if they just wanna crap all over our law, culture etc etc?
