Need For Speed : Rivals

Stupid EA with their lets do peer to peer hosting, a few host migrations which takes 20 20 seconds to complete..

lol I actually forgot about that, I have only watched my mate playing it over twitch on PS4, and every race was met with a host migration, just horrible.

Jesus flippin' christ are you telling me they've churned out yet ANOTHER NFS game with a 30fps cap? Often they end up having to patch it out.... so another game in the series that I'll be holding fire on for a while then.

Got my retail DVD edition today:

For:
Next Gen Frostbite 3 powered graphics- it really does look good maxxed out :D
Easy to pick up & play arcade racer driving model
Slick FMV's & presentation
Proper 64 Bit Application (finally!!)

Against:
EA Forced Autolog social media garbage (make your private matches only)
Terrible music but you can disable it thankfully
Lengthy loading times
Only 9GB install comes on 2 DVDs the 2nd one holds 1.3GB data what happened to the 30GB requirement on the box

Mixed bag you play as cop or racer both offer different experiences but EA went overboard on the lengthy tutorial & complex ingame menus. Should have left it simple as its just an arcade racer with true next gen graphics via Frostbite 3. Feels/plays like a cross between Most Wanted (2005) & Hot Pursuit (2010).

The Run was also limited to 30fps until a patch was brought out (which meant you had to turn off vsync to get pass 30fps). In game cut scenes still ran at 30fps though, so there would be a sudden difference once you took control of the car!

So, I too will be waiting for a patch to fix this defect. Sorry, if you can happily play racing games at 30fps good on you. I sure as hell can't. It's 2013, stop limiting platforms...

For anyone whoes interested theres a kind of fix to get 60fps on this game but you need to have a beefy rig as if it drops below at 60 at any time it will mess up. and you will get the superspeed look.

Okay its not worth doing... at 60fps its great but for some weird reason i get massive fps drops down to the thirties for some reason which messes it up... like the game just pushes your fps right down for no reason.

Just tried this game and it runs utterly awful on any settings i put it on.

Guess my MSI GX660R is starting to feel its age.

Guys

Feel free to add me on origin with marker1971, could do with playing with some people over voice rather than listen to the usual 14 year old idiots screaming for a sandwich from their mum!

60FPS is possible with a simple command line switch:

"C:\NFS The Rivals\Need for Speed Rivals\NFS14.exe" -GameTime.MaxSimFps 60 -GameTime.ForceSimRate 60"

But TBH even @ 1920x1200 @ 30FPS it pushes my GTX780Ti a little in places so not sure how 60FPS will help unless you have a monster GPU setup!

The loading times are awful wish I had waited for a 50% off sale it takes forever loading SSD makes no difference whatsoever either

I did that too but had to take it off... It runs 60 and works great but some places it seems to just randomly drop down to 30-40fps and that messes up the game when you use the 60fps command. This is on a 7990 too overclocked so i guess it has some bad optimization.

Not seen this mentioned yet but you can't use any controller other than the keyboard or a 360 pad.

Unfortunately racing wheels are not supported and on PC platforms the Xbox 360 controller and Keyboard are the only supported input devices for Need for Speed Rivals.

There is a work around tho for the G25 wheel, and G27 which I've tested and does do the job:

I had a go of the xbox version last night and have to admit it was really rather good! To me, it felt like I was playing Burnout Paradise re-skinned with tons of J.J. Abrams Lens Flare.

You can switch between your racer or police career at any time, there's tons of unlocks/upgrades and the racing is great fun. Framerate was smooth but it did suffer in some places when mass crashes happened (hopefully PC won't have that problem)

I'll probably pick this up when it's half-price, regardless of the bad press/reviews it really is a fun game.

Just got this. Had to go and fix it to run at 60fps, the 30fps lock is really bad. However I cannot get my sli to work with this. I have tried both the force render mode, but its not working, any ideas?
