Do you get an Xmas bonus?

No, but we do get the chance of an annual bonus which can vary hugely from fractions of a percent to around 40%, depending on individual and company performance.

We get paid a week early, get the choice of a Kelly Bronze turkey, donation to charity or a Christmas hamper. We also have a night out with food funded, and I will pick up the drinks for my team on the night. We have a separate funded night out for the management team but it is nothing excessive - we'll likely be in one of the same restaurants that the main staff will go to for their meals.

We normally also close the office a few hours early on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. I think we get a good overall package and are incredibly fortunate to receive it. There are too many out there without work or without decent jobs or employers.

Getting a bonus for doing your job anyway??? Thieving bankers get a bonus for doing just that!! Hate the lot of them, ruined so many lives and none are in jail.

...and no I don't get a bonus in academia :)

Does a letter from inland revenue saying I owe them £80 due to tax, seemingly from when I was unemployed count?

If not then no bonus! lol

Or, you get a bonus for exceeding expectation in your job, or maybe as a thank you because the company did better than expected?

I'm not saying that bonuses are used correctly in all businesses / industries, but they are a motivational tool.

Nope although they do fly people to the Christmas party (within the UK) and provide accommodation for the evening.
