*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

just in case people missed it the first time.

running franco kernel with -50mv undervolt using official franco app.

battery life is amazing, also the undervolt helps the cpu produce less heat, therefore better performance, meaning it's faster therefore does the same job quicker meaning less battery usage.

very pleased with this very minor tweak tbh.

Any problems with the undervolt such as crashing or laggy performance?

nah, i managed to undervolt the nexus 4 by 100mv and it worked fine, think I settled on -125mv in the end on the nexus 4 because -150mv caused reboots and crashes, there's posts in the nexus 4 thread anyway about it all.

-50mv is imo perfectly do-able for every nexus 5 absolutely no issues.

if you are going to push further, i suggest that you do not set the voltages to be set at boot, yet require manually setting each time you start the device up.

that way if it does start to reboot or crash after it boots back up it will be back to stock voltages, rather than constantly bricked until you flash stock rom or something or flash another kernel.

i will try -75mv next week.

-100mv the week after.

repeat until i get crashes and reboots. when that happens go back up two notches (not one because you can never really stress test a phone for any situation) to be on the safe side.

i reckon this should do -100mv fine but i have enough time to test it for a week at a time until i'm happy.

on another note snapchat is buggy as hell, the developers need to re-write it from scratch i reckon.

Thanks, am doing this now but while playing with the voltages I forgot the reference, what's the default voltage at 300 Mhz ? 750mv ?

nvm its 775mv at 300mhz

I know its been mentioned earlier on, but the loudspeaker sound is atrocious. The volume is inadequate and volume over 70% becomes distorted especially on calls through it.

My Galaxy S2 had better quality.

Yes, it is total crap! Too much distortion on anything over 2/3rds

My battery life has gone from amazing to useless in the last 2 weeks or so. I have already factory resorted it twice and it still terrible. I have only a few app installed now to make sure it is not a rouge app, and this is what happened last night while I was sleeping, I restarted it before I went to bed to make sure nothing was running, and only used Hangout for abit then went to bed.

Just for comparison here is a breakdown, screen on time was 25mins, forgot to take a screenshot of that.

I have done the fix for the google play services but it seems to have crept back up again :o.

At the point where I need to charge twice a day, down from not needing to charge a weekend which sucks.
Dude, my battery life had become poor as well after around two weeks of usage.

I read disabling Google Play Music sync helps, which it has done massively! No more battery in always awake mode!

undervolting

Thanks for the info, it's the opposite of what many do on here with their PCs :D

Will certainly give it a go as battery life is an important factor for me and why I'm moving away from the Nexus 4.

Having to set it manually each time you're powered on is sensible, bricking and flashing is not on my list of things to do :p

i don't get any distortion on full volume, however i agree its not the best speaker i have heard :)
