Nelson Mandela has died

If you're going to copy/paste something, you should at least have the decency to provide the source. Which is here.

The article claims:

The author offers no evidence to support this, nor does he specify which trial is referred to here.

At Mandela's first trial he was charged with treason. It lasted 6 years and he pleaded not guilty. The judges' final verdict: not guilty.

At Mandela's second trial he was charged with inciting workers' strikes and leaving the country without permission. He pleaded mitigation. The judges' verdict: guilty.

At Mandela's third trial he was charged with sabotage and conspiracy to violently overthrow the government. He pleaded guilty to sabotage but not guilty to planning violent insurrection. The judges' verdict: guilty.

Mandela remained in prison for the next 25 years. The ANC and MK continued under new leadership. Mandela was not responsible for any terrorist activities carried out by the ANC or affiliated organisations during this time; he had no authority or capacity to direct such activities, even if he'd wanted to

I cannot find any reputable source which proves that Mandela ever pleaded guilty to '156 acts of public violence including mobilising terrorist bombing campaigns, which planted bombs in public places, including the Johannesburg railway station.' Not one.

Good post but conveniently overlooked by the daily mail readers

If only he had been in an action movie

I only stick around in the hope that one day I will see someone post "Good counter argument, you have totally changed my view". ;)

I can't count how many times that has happened to me.
Then again I've never been afraid to admit I'm wrong which a lot of people can't do because they feel it's a weakness.
However it will take a lot of facts & proof to make me believe man didn't land on the moon or Muslims didn't do 9/11.

The BBC's Will Ross in Houghton: "People are coming through the night"

Article on the bbc about the difficul time for the Mandela family. Unusual caption under the media embedded in the article though  :p

He is no less controversial than Joseph Stalin himself... Is he a terrorist who killed many millions of people or a hero who created a super-power capable of sending a man to space.

Although Nelson has got far too much positive media attention, his actions were deeply questionable maybe he deserved to die in peace but to be made a role model that is to be worshiped, way over the top for a terrorist or "freedom fighter" and dont you compare him to Che, completely made of different pasty.

Also hate people who have not read about Nelson but just jump on the wagon of "Amazin person" "role model" "best man evah" do you know he`s actually not that far from being osama bin laden lol.

He is/was a terrorist. But if you believe in democracy, his primary objectives were honourable.

Watching Sky News at 04:30 on a Sunday morning and they are reporting that Nelson Mandela has died.

Is this the same Nelson Mandela that died 4days ago or is it someone else?

But that doesn't change the fact that he responded to violence with yet more violence. Gandhi achieved as much, if not more than Mandela without violence. The standard had been set, the examples made but Mandela chose not to go that route.

I was listening to Radio 4 last night. It had interviews with a number of people from both sided of SA. A General leading the white resistance said he had a meeting with Mandela and despite his preconceived idea of the man he liked him and agreed on a future for SA. A number of people(ANC and white politicians) said only Mandela through his personality and persuasion prevented a bloodbath(some called it a civil war).

As far as going down that road goes Mandela was forced down that road by the Govt.

As mentioned on the news he achieved praise from every leader of the world despite their religion, colour, ethnicity or political persuasion. The reporter could not think of anyone who had received that accolade.

Of course there will always be the detractors but certainly the UK has had nobody of his stature in the last 50+ years.

Well it look s like you haven't read the proper truth about him instead of all the myths on the internet and schoolboy Facebook messages.
Point me to a reliable source and I'll even accept a story from the Daily Mail claiming he was a killer but you won't even find one there.

It was pointed out earlier Mandela had 3 trials:
1) Treason - not guilty
2) Inciting workers to strike and leaving the country illegally - guilty
3) Sabotage and conspiracy to violently overthrow the government- he was charged with sabotage because there was no evidence for the second charge and sabotage is what he served 27 years for.

Also take into account that these Nazi's were killing blacks for nothing and if they had got him for murder he would have been executed.
There is no evidence for him murdering or giving orders so go back and do some research.

Going by that then osama bin laden is a nice guy. Because he was never found guilty of anything by any court so he must be innocent ;)

That is one of the worst arguments I've seen in this thread and there have been absolutely ****loads so far. If a guy was tried by a country that actively oppressed blacks and had huge incentive to find him guilty but didn't, that suggests they probably couldn't support the charges.

Exactly and those white African Nazi's wouldn't have bothered where evidence had come from.

The world lost a great man, who did more for the mankind than other people could ever do.
In loving memories to Nelson Mandela.
R.I.P.

Wow, blokes dead. Just leave it and let the people who want to mourn, mourn. This is GD, there is no point arguing with each other because you are all stubborn keyboard warriors who are arrogant with your views and think you are always right.

Just give it a rest the let the dead man be dead.

Unfortunately, you have now become just as ridiculous as the people you hate 'lol'
