Hey.

I started working at a Phone accessories / repair shop in my local town center, been fine for 3 weeks until today.

Was a poor day sales wise so I was feeling slightly deflated anyway (I get 15% of monthly profit) so was cashing up and a customer pops in under my shutter that was slightly down.

He wanted a quick sim card cutting service which I have a punching tool that does that fine. Did his first one. And then his second is where the problem happened...
my tool broke. It's metal hinge sheered. .. and destroyed his sim. Now I know it's my responsibility but at the end if the day I can't do anything to get his numbers back.
He thought I was finding it funny... when I did not laugh or change from a serious face...

He had 250 numbers on it which lots he could never get again he said.. and he thought I was finding it funny when infact I hate conflicts and was close to tears... He was very rude and threating to sue me and knock me out.
I had to call the shopping centers security in the end.
He wanted compensation but how can I put a monetary value on some phone numbers???

And anyway who doesn't back up their phone numbers?? He had an s2 for heavens sake.

That's my tale and I hope you enjoy.

Close to tears because a butthurt customer said words you didn't like?

That wage doesn't sound legal either.

You should have policy of not touching a SIM with the cutter unless the customer confirms that the numbers are backed up (assuming he wasn't just a troglodyte who's assumed his numbers are automatically stored on the SIM without having actually stored them there).

Surely you are not responsible for the data?

I mean if you send a phone back to O2 or something like a HDD to OCUK or something, you will be required to backup your stuff? idk, but still he should have things backed up if they are that important.

A new sim card and something as a gesture of goodwill... should have been offered.

Look on the bright side, he sounds like a sad no-real-friends number collector, think of all the people you've saved from having that "Ugh, not this ******* twit again, how did he get my number?" moment.

You're a hero.

LOLS,

What a douchebag....

You have to develop thicker skin op.

Human beings suck balls (OF course I will add generally people like said one in OP are major minority) this is why I'm not just a forum troll but an IRL troll too. Real life is like a giant internet forum for me. If it wasn't work I related would have just trolled him....

But protip I can actually fight not that it has ever come to that just don't go getting your ass kicked taking my advice.

Does telling people about your "live free, troll hard" Internet lifestyle IRL make them quiver as you adopt your boxing stance? Srs question.

If he had an S2 shoudl all be on his google account anyway?

I reckon I must know at least 50 people who are close to me who have smartphones and only 3 of them are backed up to Google Contacts.
It makes me laugh when somebody posts on Facebook "I've lost all my numbers, please message me with your number".

1. His phone should have taken a backup of his SIM card locally stored phonebook.

2. Don't know how old you are, but you will harden to the fact that sometimes you get thrown a curveball and something unexpected happens. Age and experience will toughen you up against this.

3. I hope the business you are part of is legit as there are a torrent of illegal parts and phone shops popping up all over the world.

4. You need to check with insurance or policies concerning 'oops moments', or even a disclaimer form that the customer signs/agrees to.

What is it with people claiming the internet isn't "real life"? It's not some stage performance.
