** SAPPHIRE CUSTOM 290's ARE ON THE WAY!! **

I don't understand why some think that an big OC is somehow their right?

There's nothing guaranteed when you buy a card, I think of it as a bonus.

It's not often I stand up for a business, but I think people who regularly send back cards because they don't OC as they would like them to, should be ashamed of themselves.

I think it's a disgusting practice tbh.

I have had some poor clockers in my time but have never sent one back.

We just had two reviews posted where neither could reach 1200 with this Sapphire card, one reached 1110 and the other stopped at 1100 and claimed 1200 caused artifacts.

It doesn't sound like 1200 is easy on this card, of course I understand that if you spend extra you can get cards that are more likely to reach higher overclocks but I don't think this is one of them.

Also giving overclocking predictions based on the more premium cards is going to lead to allot of disappointed users.

Probably because afterburner only allows a 100mV offset?

Did either review max the voltage out? Does not look like it. MSI afterburner only gives +100mv, you can get far more if you know how. ;)

Plus we are yet to test custom cooled cards, they could clock worse or better.

The simple facts are you accused my results of being un-reliable because I stated I could hit 1200MHz on R290's and over 1300MHz on 780 Classified.

I have since shown you evidence I did indeed manage this and several owners of said cards have since posted saying they too cannot only achieve what I stated but have beaten my results.

My results are and were perfectly reliable.

We will never give overclock predictions on any card, its a can of worms, we have end-users buying high-end cards and trying to run them off PSU's made of chocolate, what one person can achieve can't always be mirrored by another simply because the other might be using junk hardware or have no idea about what they are doing. So on this you are right, it would lead to lots of upset.

These

It's all a lottery - but by buying a premium card you stand a better chance IMHO

Well as of February next year, they won't be able too. It would seem the DSR law has being abused by too many, as such now the government is changing the DSR rules to favour the reseller more. DSR will now only allow you the same as you would if buying in-store, the moment you open and use the product the reseller can legally charge a re-stocking fee as of February-March next year, not 100% sure of the dates, but is what we've heard this week about DSR regulations being changed.

Wow thats going to suck. What will OcuK's stance on this be? If you kept at least a 7 day DSR (like now) im sure that would win you plenty of supporters.

Once again something good is ruined by *******

I have never used DSR but thought it was good to have. Glad to see the abusers mess it up for the genuine consumers :( If I buy a card and it is a rubbish clocker, tough on me.

I think it's good that the DSR is being changed, I have seen people brag about sending back 290Ps until they got unlockers. Disgusting.

No idea, its a long way off yet, lets focus on the present, when this comes about next year we shall look at it into more detail.

We have some repeat offenders on file who clearly buy cards to try before they buy as such or send them back because they are not happy with the OC. So in our view it is obviously people like this who have being doing it throughout the UK to cause the government to change the rules.

Like I say when the time is closer we shall look at it in more detail. For now nothing changes. :)

Out of interest - what percentage of cards are returned for poor OC'ing in your opinion?

No idea, quite a few, some members on this forum.

We've taken it with a blind eye and ignored it, even though some were clearly taking the mick.

Seems the government has not though, which is fair enough, because I suppose if reseller/etailor only makes 10% on the item, to then have it sent back and can't be sold as new and has to be sold as used for a 20-50% loss, it is very unfair on the reseller, could even put smaller companies into financial difficulty. Hence no doubt why changes are coming around.

Still not as bad as the USA though, they can literally tell a customer to go and do one after so many days if they wish, though my personal experience of US customer service with car parts has being nothing but spot on.

Well obviously I don't know how far they pushed the cards, but that doesn't change the fact we have two reviews on this card and the highest OC is 1110 so far.

Maybe you should point out that your results are from cards with a significant price premium and that users with the ordinary non-reference cards are unlikely to achieve the same results. :)
