Familiarity can blunt ones respect for the limits of themselves and the vehicle they drive. As can driver aids, if you are acutely aware you are triggering driver aids then great, you are recognising you are driving beyond your/the vehicles limits.
If you are triggering aids like a fireworks display on the dash and are unaware of such then you may be getting a false sense of security.
I'd like to think I recognise when aids are triggering but I am not so ignorant to believe I do so in all occasions, especially when driving in stressful situations.
It's very easy to think "Oh great, AWD, VSC and TSC, I can drive this car much faster!"

Are there really roads on Jersey where aqua planing is an issue at 35mph ?
FWIW, the other week when we had epic downpour and a lot of the A3 was largely pool laden across multiple lanes at night, didn't have DSC come on once or even a hint of jitter at my usual cruising speed. Just don't do anything brash while driving over them? Some people slow down to a crawl and cruise along in lane 1, which is also fine. Safe for the conditions and their car/tyres and all that.

Not sure where 35 mph came from.
For a regular road user, aqua planing in Jersey is not a big a concern as it is on the mainland by a long shot. Saying that though, many roads are terrible over here and promote very large amounts of standing water.
Coastal roads can see a very large % of their width covered in deep standing water enough to cause issues even at 40MPH. Jersey is very hilly with numerous large valleys, big rainfall promotes large amounts of natural drainage onto roads with no additional drainage themselves.
For the not so regular road user - Aqua planing is a very real consideration. As it should be for everyone, but they are not as likely to be in a situation where it would be prevalent.

Jersey sounds like a very worthwhile place to own a car with an engine that only comes alive at 4000rpm
You've admitted you don't own a car with these aids so you can't say that with any confidence. You'll know whether you are the sort of driver who'd do that - I don't, and I doubt you would.
PMKeates was therefore spot on. Your logic was bizarre.

What Mr Gill has told you today is what he wants you to believe. The fact of the matter is that he, in a moment if madness, tried to re-enact the opening credits of a 1980s TV show which went wrong. Whilst it is to be thankful for that he is ok, the jury should not be blindsided with the explanation given.
Consider the following video.
He tried to do a Thomas Magnum drive off and it went wrong.

You average over 52mph over an 8 hour working day 5 days a week for 48 weeks a year?
Good effort, one wonders if you actually do anything when you reach your destination other than turn around and head back again, not even waiting to unload your cargo
And you find yourself complacently relying on driver aids when you do, do you?
That sounds like poor practice rather than the presence of the aids.
I maintain my view that PMKeates was spot on. Your logic was flawed, there is no reason to be 'glad' your car doesnt have driver aids from a safety perspective.
