The insulator has melted...not a lot...well...far too much, the whole post is loose, but not too loose, and it got so hot, it melted and took some cotton into it :D . Well, at least it loosened the plastic window I had been trying to get off for about a fort-night.

Anyway, I could cry right now. Everything works  Tastes perfectly fine, Kick is still kicking, problem is the delrin is still super super loose. KFL works, just that insulator has melted, but not to the extent it will short.

They all look like they have the same ID so should all be similar, I have actually gone back to my smaller plastic drip tip currently because I think I prefer it, I have a few here, the vase type ones are a bit annoying because of the shape, surprisingly the cheapest £1.50 plastic one I have is currently the one I am using the most. The IGO-W with a wide bore drip tip is a bit too airy now that I have got used to it, I don't think the draw is a problem with the IGO-W using a single coil.

Thanks for the feedback Nirk, appreciated. Gives me confidence in buying the IGO-W.

Meanwhile, saw my brother today who works for Nicolites, and he showed me his rather large box of juices he's carrying as samples for shops and he gave me some to try. Basically, Nicolites now own this new juice company but are keeping their brand name separate from Nicolites. They have 10 flavours at the moment but apparently they'll be increasing to 75. I'll let you know what they're like. There's no info on the boxes as to PG/VG. They smell quite nice, particularly the cinnamon apple. I think they're selling them for £4.99 per 10ml.

I'd be keen to find out if they're mixed in the UK or just re branded Chinese juice...

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they're rebranded chinese juice and probably aren't premium as their description and higher retail price would have us believe. Big companies like Nicolites will no doubt be more about mass sales over quality.
Here's their blog. Well, I now know it's PG only.

metallic taste with new protank coil heads

Hi

I have a Kangertech Protank 2 and have a problem with using some brand new coil heads.

I successfully used the 2 coils that came included with the tank. Both were 1.8ohm and lasted for nearly 6 weeks each but it was finally time to to fit a new coil.

I have now opened an official KangerTech replacment coil pack (5x 1.8ohm) and have had problems with the first 2 coils tried. They have both had a horrible metallic taste despite using the same 3.4 - 3.7v settings on my batteries and USB cable pass through unit.

Do Protank coils normally need a burn in period before tasting good or do i simply have a dud pack of coils? I have tried using them but the taste makes me feel sick and wanting to go back to my 6 week old coil which i have luckily kept hold of.

It does sound like you have a pack of dodgy heads. From what I've heard Kanger's quality control isn't what it used to be. If you can, get them replaced or get a refund and buy elsewhere.

Thanks. Will try another coil and hope for the best. I have just read that these Protank coils often take a tank or 2 for any metallic taste to subside. I don't know how one can cope with it for that long though. The original coils only needed 4 or 5 puffs to work properly and allow the full and untainted eliquid flavour.

If it is not the heads try changing the drip tip. Not sure how you can last a single head for 6 weeks tbh, they taste bad to me after about 10 days. Switch the cotton in my IGO-W about every 1-2 days.

It's not unheard of. I've had heads last weeks too; it's very dependent on the juice and the magic luck factor. Speaking of cotton, I've had the same cotton in a tank vaping an apple flavour for several weeks now and it still tastes the same.

The reason I like using a dripper is because I get bored quickly and change flavours a lot, also I am still learning my own DIY e-liquids so it is good for that. After a day of about 5 different flavours going into it, starts to taste a bit odd, especially chocolate or similar they gunk it up.

Also i t may be worth removing a flavour wick.
If you get a pliers and pull out the centre post, you will see 2 little strands of silica on top of the coil, remove 1 or even both of these and try again.
To me a metallic taste usually means the wick is being starved of juice

So... cotton wicks. Who's having a good time with them?

I've spent the past couple of days rewicking a few of my Sophia heads with cotton, but it's been nothing but misery so far. Using Boots 100% cotton balls, boiled.

I've tried using more cotton, less cotton, different coils, dry-burning old ones, straight re-wicking new ones and all are the same -- it tastes like hell on Earth. I get a bit of the flavour of my juice coming through, but the predominant taste is a horrible, harsh, burnt flavour... though upon inspection the wick is well saturated and nothing is actually burning (with cotton there's very little leeway there... if it's too dry, it'll just disintegrate).

I do hear people saying that some cotton does have a "cottony" taste for a few puffs, but that goes away. I've thrown two tanks through one of these wicks (my, cotton is THIRSTY stuff!) with so little improvement that I just removed and re-wicked it with a bit less.

Any ideas what might be happening here?

Your not alone, im having equal issues with my kayfun, but a month or so ago i had it working perfectly for days, and then all of a sudden ive not been able to get it right at all - like you not much taste on the inhale, but plenty of of the smell of the juice (several juices, including 2 menthols) never found the wicks to have any scorch marks or anything like :( just one of those things - downside for me at least, once tasted a good cotton setup, silica tastes soooooooo wrong lol.

Too much cotton = No taste / cotton taste

Not enough cotton = Doesn't work properly

You should pull the cotton through the coil so that it is just touching the coil, not yank a load through the coil, should be able to pull the cotton out without any effort, more than that is too much and will not work properly.

I've tried it both ways... gradually stripping down the amount of cotton I'm using with each rebuild. At no point in any of my attempts have I used so much cotton that it literally needs yanking through the coil. The tiniest bit of resistance is what I'm going for -- though I've seen videos on YouTube of people building cotton coils with what appears to be waaaaay too much cotton... yet it seems to work perfectly?

Yesterday I had one pumping out the vapour like nobody's business, with a tinge of the juice flavour. The rest of the flavour was just burning, harsh (like, burns the nose and throat on exhale) and utterly nightmarish. I'm guessing that isn't the "cotton taste" that people mention?

Gone back to Silica for now. :(

Maybe the coils are touching and making it taste burnt? For me the cotton coils work much better, no burnt taste at all, but when I started doing them all I could taste was cotton, this was because a) did not boil the cotton for 30mins b) was using too much cotton, try a different brand of cotton as well.

Have you tried a difference juice? I've got one here that just doesn't seem to wick very well with cotton. Have tried it many times and it needs me to keep 'priming' the KFL to keep the taste there. Any other juice i've used/tried has been fine though.

It's odd as they are all 50/50......

I am having issues with the same coils. I have a protank 1 and protank 2 and i have nearly had to change the coils daily. With me they are getting flooded and causing ejuice to gurgle up to the mouth piece..as soon as i change the coil, problem gone. Going to look into rebuildables as this is a pain in the a$$
