I need to be 100% sure that will run with my PSU though. Seems to be a few split opinions here?
Also, that won't bottleneck my CPU will it like the 7850 did with my i3 3220?
No an i5 4650k Haswell will not bottleneck either gpu. The 780 and 290 have similar power requirements, so if one will work fine, so will the other. Anyone suggesting otherwise is talking out their rear end.
Go for the 290. Its cheaper, faster and you want to experience BF4 at the highest settings with the best performance and to do that you'll need a AMD GPU and Mantle.
I have the MSI GTX780 Gaming Edition and the cooler is fantastic, I haven't heard to peep out of it and it keeps things nice and cool.
290/290X with same cooler will be a great combination.![]()
Cheers guys, it's not something I will pick up straight away but it'll be in the next few weeks. Hope the price stays the same, if it doesn't I'll still get it anyway.
PC's are expensive... But fun.![]()
You're in for some performance upgrade.![]()
After this I need to stop spending! I will be bankrupt soon!I hope that card will fit in my Antec one case!
Thanks again for all your help.![]()

Is the black screen issue sorted now, I have not read the thread for a while. If not it is something to be aware of.
No, I haven't ordered yet Gregster. I won't be ordering until a couple of weeks.
What wattage PSU should I be going for then? I'm still not 100% comfortable on spending nearly £400 on a graphics card especially as I need to buy a new PSU...
What options do I have?
I know you want to upgrade and I understand that but I implore you to grab a PSU if you are getting that 290.

And why not source a cheaper card from the MM? I am sure in the coming weeks, you can get something proper worthy of switching out your 7850 for much less. EVGA for instance allows the warranty to carry over to the new owner. That would give you peace of mind.
And I can't say I've heard of that PSU brand before, are they reliable?
Yeah, if I get a PSU at least I know it'll be more than capable. Think it would be worth getting a 290 from the MM in order to save a few pennies? And I can't say I've heard of that PSU brand before, are they reliable?
Would 650w definitely be enough then? 100%? I don't want to have to buy a new PSU again in 2 months...
Yer, keep an eye on the MM or even put a request for a 290 and see if anyone gets back to ya. I imagine that mining isn't so profitable now, so a few might be selling up. If you are in no rush, I would definitely keep an eye on the MM.
As for the PSU, they are top dogs in that department
And that depends on itching again. If you have no intention of going CF, that will be enough but that itch sometimes.....
I will certainly not be going crossfire, I have no interest in performance that extreme.
I won't be 'on the edge' with that 650w PSU and a 290 though will I?
No Tom, you will have plenty in reserve to buy lots of case fans to try and keep that 290 cool![]()
