Who owns a 350z/370z?

So far almost exactly 12 months on I haven't *had* to spend any money, however the exhaust came to £800 all in and I have spend another couple of hundred on a plenum spacer and air filter which I have yet to fit. That said the rear tyres are getting low and it is due its service in a few weeks so that might change very soon!

Already got the plenum spacer installed, and done the airbox modification as well as adding a panel filter upgrade.

Next step will be decat and exhaust, then a remap.

Styling will be next!

I've also changed the head unit because the standard Bose one is gash.

Even then that's all been my own tweaking rather than having to do it. I cannot stop myself :o

The Rays need to be redone too as they're bubbling a bit in places.

Luckily my alloys were refurbed before I purchased so mine are still immaculate which is one less thing!

Ah yes - the headunit is on my list also, any vaguely cold morning and the CD player is pointless, and its not exactly great when its working!

Been toying with the idea of a gloss black roof (on a silver GT), seen a few pics and it looks quite cool.

Ahhhh ive had loads done to ours to keep it in tip top shape. In the last 20 months its had drop links replaced, compression arm bushes, front and rear discs and pads, new exhaust and a gearbox rebuild due to some syncro failure.

That said the Mrs does a lot of miles and most of those things are wear and tear other than the gearbox. Just waiting for the clutch to go too!

That said it is great and actually causes very little hassle for an 8 year old sports car.

When I do do the clutch, I'll be going for a lightened flywheel. The gearbox is still in good nick.

Wear and tear happens on all cars though so as long as you've put a bit aside to cater for things like that then you should be fine. :)

Exactly if you get one you've got to have the money in hand to deal with it throwing up the odd bill

Yes I might go for a lightened fly wheel too, hopefully wont happen for a few months though :)

I am feeling a little bit deflated today.

I have looked at several 350zeds today but only had time to drive one. The one I drove seemed good on the photos, but upon closer inspection things weren't too good.

Whilst mechanically it felt pretty good (pulling nicely through the rev range, mostly okay for noises, no clicking from the rear at low speeds between 1st and reverse gear, tyre wear even) it would make what sounded like a low whine for a split second between 3-5k revs - it couldn't have been the exhaust as it would have been more constant; and it reminded me of the intermittent noise my Spitfire diff would make. I was able to repeat the test twice, but the third time the noise didn't come up, perhaps the differential oil was thin and it needed warming up but it still was noticeable and that was the first warning sign for me.

The next issue was with the service history. From an annual perspective it had at least 5 services missing, from a mileage perspective it was missing 2 services and both were the crucial P3 service as well.

Furthermore, there were signs of poor body work repairs; so much so that one wing was rusting up which means a poor repair and hundreds of pounds to put right. The swage lines on one wheel arch had small dents along the rear wings and both bumpers had signs of work on them. All the alloys were in need of refurbishment.

The other cars I viewed also had dodgy panel gaps, kerbed alloys and signs of uneven paint where poorer repairs were done.

So it was a bit of a disappointing experience...the drive was good but I guess it just means I need to look a little further afield and be prepared to wait a while for the right ones to come along.

Ah well, I'm looking at more over the coming weekends at least so there is the chance for the right one to come along :)

I've had my 54' GT for about 14 months now, and it's been great. The only expense I've had has been with the exhaust, which cost around £800 recently.

Other than that I've had one set of tyres (rears are due again now) and a set of brake pads all round.

I've also had a P1 and a P3 service - both with Nissan. I'd like to get all 4 wheels refurbished at some point this year though, as they've suffered over the years a bit! Car is staying completely standard though :)

Fuel has been quite expensive since moving, but I've started lift sharing with someone from my office, which is halving both of our fuel bills at least.

It's a buyers market gamesfreak - just keep looking, don't settle for one that isn't good enough. It took me about 6 months to find the one I wanted.

Have you had any more luck?

After looking at Celica GT4's, S14 200SX's and 300ZX's my attention turned to these as they are around the same price bracket.

My aim is to find one at around £5k with the GT spec, Black leather interior in gun metal grey or red. Am I being realistic? Unfortunately there aren't many for sale near me (Somerset) but I'd like to go out in one or test drive it to see what I think of them.

They tick all my other limited boxes, so I think I'm pretty settled on it.

Any opinions/thoughts on these? I have of course been doing some reading on the owners forums.

£5k is obviously the low end of the market, you will be looking at higher mileage 2003-2004 models. That said if they have been looked after that isn't necessarily anything to worry about. Redline red is a very rare colour and hard to find, whereas Silverstone is a far more common colour.

Although it is definitely a buyers market I had to travel 2hrs+ to find a tidy 350Z (I found mine in Enfield in the end) and found all of the ones near me fairly tatty. A lot of the warning signs you can see in adverts so often worth going further afield.

Edit - there are only 10 redline coloured 350Zs on AT at the moment in the whole UK. And the cheapest tatty one is £5500!

Hey,

Ahh that eliminates the red ones then!

Yea, I imagined I'd be looking at a 2004 model at best. I think they changed the engine in 2006 which increased the car tax anyway, I'm not keen on the £400PY tax bracket! I'm aiming for around the 70-80k mark mileage wise. So Silverstone is the darker grey colour then? I think I'd prefer that over the lighter silver ones. Can you tell em what dictated what spec/trim came with what wheels? Some of the GT's seem to come with Rays wheels (http://www.pistonheads.com/classifi...5-v6-3dr-78000-miles-full-history/1992585)and others come with some standard looking Nissan ones (http://www.pistonheads.com/classifi...ck-leather-xenons-and-parking-sensors/2006320). Is it simply an upgrade specified when the car was bought?

Also, I've read a fair bit about the stereos, realistically how bad is it and is the sound quality decent?

The Rays alloys came with the GT pack. You do see the odd non GT with the Rays though so it must have been an option. There is only really two trim levels, standard and GT, the GT adds cruise, Bose audio and electric leather. There were a few options like nav and Bluetooth but both are junk!

Yes Silverstone is the darker grey, and it is a nice colour. I ended up getting a chrome silver (the lighter silver!) which wasn't really my top choice but went on mechanical quality and didn't really care about colour as long as I didn't get a sunset one (gold).

The tax actually went up because the government brought in the extra bands L and M in 2006 however it emits the same as the earlier ones but they were only in band K. In 2006 the engine was given a slight bump to 300bhp and then replaced with a different unit in 2008 which gave out 313bhp.

Just been offered to buy an old work colleagues 350z which I'm sorely tempted to do! Was looking at these anyway and this has now come up.

So what are the common things to look out for? Also about the price, he's casually mentioned around the £7k mark which I thought was a bit expensive for a 53 plate (68k miles)? To be fair it does have a bunch of mods on it already which I would've done anyway, starting with Rota wheels, Nismo exhaust system,Tein coilovers (with fancy electronic adjuster) and styling wise it's white vinyl wrapped with Nismo sideskirts and a Veilside front lip.

Here's a really bad pic the guy sent over :)

Thoughts on price?

Coming up to 3 years on my 350Z now. Time to upgrade? to a 370Z of course! :)

Been awesome! Only bad thing is the tax as mines a 2008 GT 313 so i have to pay pretty much £500.

Well I was fed up with my wipers looking peeled and flaky so finally got round to tidying them up. Wiper puller to get them off, rub down and primed them up last night

Just started putting a couple of coats of gloss black on them now so hopefully will get them back on the car tomorrow night and get some finished pics :)

Completed and back on :) Look so much tidier again, no peeling to be seen :)

Starting to think I might do a black vinyl roof - not sure if anyone else has gone down this route?
