It doesn't save any time at all, really. You've still got to reinstall most of your programs, re-arrange everything to how you had it before, copy all your user data back to the new Windows user account....It's only useful if you haven't got your documents, photos, videos, etc backed up. Overlaying a new Win install without formatting also leaves you with a lot of stray crapola hanging around, that's why I suggested that the OP do it only to get his stuff backed up and then format.

You'll need to get the windows disk and try a repair from it. Hopefully it's something simple like a corrupt windows file and the disk will reinstall it.
Do you know how to get into your computers bios to change the boot order?
It usually flashes up on start-up saying something like 'Press Del for bios'. Not all motherboards are the same.
Once in bios (and you have the disk), select boot options and make sure your disk drive is the first in boot priority. You're basically telling the PC to look for a disk and boot from it rather than the hard-drive
Yeah i can do al that fine, I just am worried if I can't find my disk then what? I mean my GF has one I can use but it won't e the same disc I used so that wing work :/ I'm frantically looking for this disc I had it like last week
Is your GF's disk the same operating system though? If it's the same then you can use that. You can readily download windows off the internet, it's the 'key' that you essentially pay for. If it's not the same, can she download it and burn it to disk or usb?
I've just installed a new mobo and had the same. You have no choice but to re-install windows. I tried a repair but it wouldn't work. This wasn'ta problem as all my important files are on a separate drive to my OS.....I would hope all your Youtube files are also backed up and on a separate drive seeing as it's your livelihood! If you're really desperate you could download the trial version and stick it on a disk/USB from another computer. Or take your HDD out and stick it in your GF's PC and use that until you find your disk?

Yeah it's the same disk and all but surely the key is important and I have no idea wha mine is as it is on my missing disk, also I have an external inclosure would I be able to remove my hard drive and open it on her PC to remove my important files then reinstall windows on my hard drive
Thankyou this sucks, I don't had them on seperate so this will be a issue I do have a part time job but it pays half of what YouTube as well as I own a very popular mine craft server which is the bulk of my livelihood. Huh time to lose everything I guess :/
Check the Edit on my last post. You could back everything up on your GF's PC before a fresh install on yours.
You should have a few days before needing to insert the key so it buys you a bit of time. That's the scenario of a fresh install though. If you can use her disk and 'try' a repair from disk you may get lucky.
You should be able to remove the hard-drive and plug it into her pc if it has the same ports etc. I have seen a certain make of enclosure that had different connections in order to lock down moving the drives around freely. Hopefully you don't have that one!

Thankyou I ordered a new external inclosure and will be here tomorrow and I'll transfer everything I can over hopefully that works then I'll do this, is this the program to find my old CD key, or is that something else you could link me?
The link is to download the ISO to create a new boot disc to repair your current install, you will have to use your existing key (if the OS and key match).
Though I still believe you will need to complete a new install after changing the motherboard. If your OS was an OEM you may also need to try and activate the licence via a call to Microsoft as the previous key may be tied to the mortherboard.

yeah,try to do a startup repair first,you wont lose any data
boot from windows dvd and pick startup repair then let it do its thing and once done boot from your os hdd,then once in windows try to recover your windows key and re activate windows
if it cant fix things then backup the hdd and do a clean windows install
