Had an Xbone, then a PS4, keeping the Xbone

I don't have either but I'll be buying a PS4 for specs and because I have PS plus. Oh and because it's cheaper. The only reason I haven't bought one yet is that there's still a few last gen games I'm playing and no current gen game I'd pay full price for. I will be getting one in the coming months.

In terms of games/exclusives, I don't see how anyone could say just yet. We are at the start of a long journey.

Yeah gameplay is a weak argument when it comes to playing games....seriously LOL at that.

What's the point of the new consoles at all then? Surely the 360 and PS3 are good enough as they both have good games?

Or do we have new consoles to take the same good games and make them even better?

Progression, what is it?

Progression is the same soulless games from last gen with shinier graphics. My most played game of the year will be Dark Souls 2 on PS3.
I like nicer graphics of course but I wouldn't say there has been any progression in 'game play' just because ps4 is more powerful than the 3.

I know this is a little bit off topic but to those who have a high end gaming PC, for what reasons did you decide to buy a next-gen console?

You are right to some extent I currently agree with you. The first wave of games on the next game are basically nice looking games with the basic same game mechanics from last gen we are all so bored of, but I'm hoping going for the new hardware will allow new stuff we aren't used to as I explained in my earlier post. Its nice to have 64 players in BF now and its close to getting to the full BF experience, albeit a buggy one.

I'm not a fan of Nvidia Physx because from a gameplay point of view it adds nothing really, just nice looking effects that you can't interact with as it can only react to your character normally. This should change with the advent of Huma in the consoles and soon to the PC and games should really get more life because of it.

My favorite game currently is TLOU and thats on the PS3, its a great game, but does nothing new.

I've always had a high end PC, but there's times gaming on it can be a little too hardcore, like when you fire up BF4 and there's a dutch dude who clearly lives at his PC with a 5000 dpi mouse wrecking a server with his ultra precise Littlebird antics and other dude who's invisible running round stabbing everyone, its nice to cut the crap sometimes and know you are playing on a level field in front of the TV. That and it took me around 2-3 hours of messing with drivers and stuff like core parking just to get BF4 running right. I struggle for time with that stuff at the minute.

I am all for nice shinier graphics and am really enjoying my PS4. I am not too bothered about a change in the way games play rather than wanting the game makers to put more of an effort into writing a captivating story with memorable characters, say like The Last of Us. If you can combine this with good solid gameplay mechanics then I will be happy.

It's games likes Infamous SS and new Uncharted etc that aIm really looking forward too. Stunning breathing cities in Infamous and lovely vistas in UC. This is when I appreciate the hardware boost.
Of course some games will come out that will be totally unique, but it's not to say they couldn't be done on last gen hardware.
As you say though, the hardware will allow (when utilised) well for levels of immersion not possible on last gen, be it extra effects or more people to make a city feel alive.

So you are happy with the tight corridors and small arenas which existed last generation due to hardware constraints and have even popped up in new generation titles?

TLoU is great but there's no denying that you are just funnelled down a corridor.

Yeah cause every game last gen has tight corridors and small arena's....

Although the last of us was technically funnelling you down a corridor I can't say it actually felt like that when immersed in the game. A well told story can negate that slightly as an argument but I take your point.

Sometimes I feel that huge sprawling open world games can lose focus about what the game makers are actually trying to say and doesn't always help character development... it's an argument that there can be too much to do and too many areas to explore and the right balance isn't always easy to find.

But maybe that's just me... ;)

There were plenty of large, open areas where you could do some exploring or find alternate routes though. Ultimately though, a good storyline will generally go hand-in-hand with linear game design, there's only so far developers can stray from that before it compromises the story they're trying to tell.

Exclusives, you can't get Killer Instinct or Infamous on PC. Plus Ive always brought every major console on launch day since the original Xbox back in 2002, like to build up my console collection :)

just my 2p's worth I own both consoles. Got the ps4 first due to preferring ps3 last gen. But since i received my xbone 3 weeks ago i havent turned on the ps4. I agree I prefer the xbone controller having bigger hands i find the ds4 analogue stick placement uncomfortable.Surr on paper the ps4 looks morr powerful but I havent seen anything on ps4 yet that looks as good as ryse it looks better than amy pc game i have seen either and i have a high end pc. I am sure in their lifetimes thy will both have some amazing games. But right now the xbox is gettong all my time.

Hugest

I still can't decide wether to go for an Xbox One or a PS4...

I read something saying that the PS4 is a lot stronger in terms of specs and most games look better on the PS4.

Smoke and mirrors really, they give you the impression of scale without having much. Crytek are the masters of that.

dont understand the logic there i have played ryse and killzone SF and killzone SF looks far superior to ryse?? Technically in another league with engine etc.

The reasons I went for PS4 are:

1) More powerful console graphically
2) Cheaper
3) Exclusives on PS4 are less likely to appear on PC than exclusives on XBONE

I find having at least one console compliments the PC quite nicely.

Consoles are far better just to sit under the telly for games like FIFA, Street Fighter & console exclusives. Easy to switch on, grab a controller and get some local multiplayer going at the drop of a hat.

I've not long built the spec I've got in my sig and in a way I kinda regret spending so much money on a PC. To many drivers and settings to fiddle with. With a console you can just jump straight in.
