Cheapest car to insure?

My first car was a 1.8 diesel (non turbo) Peugeot 205 lol

That was fairly cheap to insure but then again it did cost me £300 and it came pre-dented so it was a winner!

I believe "Voluntary worker" is one of the cheapest, and its what mine was when I took out my quote.

When I wanted to change to "Apprentice" the online quotes system quoted me £500 more! but when I phoned up they said the online quotes system is stupid and rather than taking £500, they gave me £100 back. :p

I'm interested in this. I'm currently a student but with a graduate job lined up; for the majority of my policy, I will be an auditor, but for the first few months I won't... auditor is cheaper than student... am I okay to put it down? ho hum

Sub £300 this year on the '5. Getting old ;) (22)

I dont know... I'm technically a Student since I am conducting my study through a college, but my proper job title is "Apprentice - IT" which is more expensive, I believe you have to select the one which is most accurate, so for me that was "Apprentice".

For most of my apprenticeship I will be a software functional tester. It's a shame I can't put that down, because it will drop the price even more. :(

So the cost depends on what job title you have or if you're a student or not?
I'll wait till 19th bday and see what quotes I get then. At the moment the choice of cars and the quotes I'm getting are rubbish/crazy :p

Do you know anyone aged 20-21 owning an Audi A3 8P, with small engine like 1.8 or 1.9 diesel and what their insurance is like?

A3s are normally very bad: my friend has one and pays more insurance than I do on my Jag and MR2 combined! Considering the way most of them seem to be driven, that's hardly surprising though :p

UK has probably one of the most expensive insurance policies, on the planet. You're 18-19 years old and get quotes of 2k for some 1.2 engine and then you look at, what teenagers drive in the US... :(

I think the USA is more the exception than the rule though. Compared to the rest of Europe, the UK is pretty good towards young drivers. Yes, in your first year you're going to be forced into something very low powered, but after that I've found that insurance is pretty kind really. As much as I complain that they won't insure me on an M5 or RS6, the fact that they'll insure me on my cars at 19 with only two years driving experience for under £1k per car I think is pretty good considering the risk they're taking.

My uncle is 40, he use to live in Germany but he moved here. He never had any vehicle insured in UK, when we called an advisor they told us best choice would be a 1.0l or 1.2l :o

I'm not sure what part of europe you're talking about, as most of the countries I know have lower insurance costs compared to UK. I can give an example of my home country Poland, if I wanted to drive an BMW 535i the insurance would be only a little bit more expansive then e.g. my dads. My bestfriend which I known for over 12 years now, has bought a BMW E46 330D 3 door as a first car. He is 18 only just passed his test, he doesn't have a full time job or rich parents. He can pay for the insurance from his part time job! :D

I forgot about Poland actually - there's a couple of Polish guys at my uni with very nice cars. The countries I was thinking of were France, Italy, Switzerland and Spain, which either have extremely expensive insurance, strict rules concerning the type of car you can own/speed you can drive at, or both! When I was in France last summer, lots of guys my age came up and spoke to me about my car as it was apparently unheard of for someone of my age to be driving such a car, as there were so many restrictions on what you could drive in the two years after you passed your test.

I think I'll move to Poland.
It is a nice country, most people who went out on holiday weren't disappointed. But you wouldn't want to live there, because of the crisis...

IC3, teach me Polish? :D
When do we start? :p

Edit

My friend who lives in France has turned up 22 this year, started driving alfa romeo 147 when 21. But I didn't talk to him in ages, can't remember if he complained about the insurance or not... I'm only saying that insurance in UK for young drivers is a bit too harsh, if they raised the difficulty level for driver's license. Then it would help to eliminate those idiots who can't drive, or young girls talking on the phone and doing make up at this same time.

I confess that I know very little about Poland. I don't doubt that its a nice country though. :)

Err... now? :D

Its fine and gets really cheap once you get slightly older though, my SL500 Merc was about £350 comp at 27. At the same time i had a Vaux Vectra C 1.8 insured at just £170! Thats cheap by any standard :)

Cześć - Hello
Jak się masz? - How are you?
Jak masz na imię? - What is your name? :D

Yeah, my dad's insurance is cheap e.g. Saab 9-3 205HP convertible full comp was 32 pounds a month. As I said before, the new fresh drivers who only just passed their test are getting ripped off... :(

I can insure pretty much anything for £1000 or less at 22 with 4NCB, 1 fault accident, 1 non fault, and a TS10. Except an S2000. That's £1800, more than TVRs, Ferraris, etc.

Have the money to change cars easily now but it's just not worth it as I'm moving to London in July :(

£288 is my best quote thus far for my '5. :)

An ferrari is cheaper then S2000? Wut!? :o
If you're moving to London, get a bike :D

Admiral group, who give me the best quotes on high performance cars, seem to charge a huge premium to S2000s. I feel they may have been bitten hard by offering cheap premiums about 10 years ago or the like. My cheapest quote for my MX5 is with TheInsuranceLine again, mind.

I feel a bike would go badly considering I can't ride a normal bike, let alone one with an engine attached.

Thanks but without knowing the pronunciation that isn't much use. I haven't thought this through have I! :D

Back on topic though, I'm really stoked about getting my next car, but I'm trying to make myself wait 18 months (and not crash into anything in that time) so I have 2 years no claims. :(

Probably, well because of the insane quotes, I'm looking for something like this to commute around the town. It will cost me around 20-30 quid monthly to insure so...
