New ROBOCOP

This is just pointless bickering. It will be a box office success and loads of people in this thread will see it, no question about it.

Who's bickering? It's pretty much a unanimous opinion that the original is a classic and the remake looks like watered down poo.

Yes, I'll see it eventually, but not at the cinema.

Going to see this tonight, thought original was ok but like many films from the 80's it hasn't exactly aged well.

Don't focus on visuals, focus on content :)

I believe the only reason that some people liked the Total Recall remake was because it looked pretty for example. That, and perhaps being easily entertained :p

Huh and not the amazingly cheesy dialogue which was nigh on perfect for the era in which the film was released? Watching TR today people will cringe but look at it with eyes made for those years and it's an amazing film.

True, but the content (eg: story, style, characters) are top notch IMHO.

I'm old enough to remember seeing them in the 80's and the acting and dialogue was pretty ropey even back then.

Also there's something about the original when Robocop walks, that ambient humming of electronic components and the thump with each step.

That's something the trailers/videos of the remake don't have from the looks of it. Little things like that are what makes it amazing.

Remastered Bluray releases are amazing, Robocop is no exception :)

I loved the way he'd turn his head first, then the rest of his body would rotate and follow suit... Thromp... Thromp... Thromp... :)

See it's the little things! And when I had my Robocop action figure as a kid I'd make him move the same way!

In the new film, does the "I'd buy that for a dollar!" guy now say "I'd buy that for twenty seven dollars and forty two cents!", to account for inflation since the original, since a dollar would get you **** all these days.

It had that, but they WHERE Story and character driven themes.

Remember, Robo was thrown in the bin ( literally) by Verhoven until his wife said, yes, but the story of a man is there and just put your own spin on it.
I dont know another director that is able to slap you so openly in the face with political slapstick whilst a mans body is blown to pieces in front of you.

That, and Weller really took the role seriously, not a parody or some cheesy flick, he took the role as a serious thing, his body movements in the suit I have never seen equalled on screen.

There's a better remake out there. A fan made scene for scene reinterpretation of robocop. I cant post because some of it isnt safe for work, but Google Our Robocop Remake, its on vimeo. Scene 27 is particularly interesting.

just got back and rather enjoyed it, it does a good job of emphasising the man in the machine ethical question and the use of drones, whilst also flowing at a far rate. The deconstruction scene is very well done, as is the early training scenes. If anything it felt like it had been over cut, with some scenes feeling like they have had chucks removed which in the Directors Cut would come back. Sam Jackson is also superbly cast. All in All I'd rate it a 7/10.
