MSI R9 290 / 290x gaming edition - powertune throttling the core clock discussion...

Got my two running Under Volt -0.031v @977/1250 been very stable so far.

Currently running 1000/1250 at -0.044v. It was -0.037v but i dialed it back another 0.006v. He who dares wins and all that. Every little helps on the reference cooler. :p

Is this just an issue with MSI Afterburner or does it apply regardless of overclocking software? Using Sapphire TriXX for example.

Does this happen on Stock and standard anyway or only if your overclocking?

The thread seems to suggest it happens anyway, so just wanted to understand the process to fix it before my 290 MSI's (2 of) arrive tomorrow:

Simply put it would be to install MSI afterburner (latest version?) and set +50 on the power limit within MSI - Is that it or is there more to do?

I.e. settings??

I am running bf4 so will be limited on driver set I think just wanted to understand it before installing and getting frustrated.

Thanks,

Might only be if you overclock, I run mine at stock and don't get any of this.

You don't have any throttle on your graphs or do you think because you ahve 2 the extra grunt means it's not noticeable?

I ask as whilst I have ordered 2 I was only going to install1, to see if it could do what I needed and return the other one if it did.

Then again the lizard brain may take over and I'll keep both just for....

I use a On-screen-Display's and that show's the cards keeping there 977/1250

Throttling does not affect crossfire.

Throttling does not affect crossfire.

I apologise, I am not sure I follow ~(It's me I am being dense I am sure)

So both cards scale up and down as they need? and because of the extra performance of having an extra card it's not noticeable in the over all experience.

Or

Something else?

I should imagine that if it's happening to all cards, it's happening to cards in Xfire.

There is a small bug in power tune that can sometimes cause the core clock to drop slightly under load, despite being within temp and power limits. However this only affects single card users. It is not present in crossfire unless your temps hit 94c.

So just got my 2 MSI 290x's and this is unacceptable, how do I stop the constant up's and down's in GPU usage?

No OC's yet just running standard 1030 core

EDIT: Or is the GPU meant to go up and down during benching? Clocks speeds are nice and flat...
