When activating the fingerprint reader it even tells you that using a PIN is safer. You also need to set a backup code in case your fingers are too dirty, or whatever. Forgetting that code, which will easily happen if you are rarely required to use it will just get you into more trouble since some features will not work with the scanner but only the code.
It looks that way for me at the moment.
Well I'm going to be going against the grain I think.
My S3 is due for an upgrade andi smashed the screen a week or so ago so need a new phone.
Its come down to the Z2, S5 and the new HTC.
The Z2 is a bit too tall for me, size wise its nearly as long as a note 3 from pictures.
The S5 will be a big improvement from what I currently have LTE, faster, better screen, better camera, better battery life etc.
I'll probably wait to see what HTC offer but currently its looking like an S5 in black.
Obviously depending on the contract deals available.

Google make you set a pin when you use face recognition unlock. Not sure what the deal is?
The deal is that, for example, you cannot do a factory reset without the backup pin. I would expect it to be possible to use your fingerprint first, and if that didn't work you would have the option to use the backup pin. But no, you can only use that code which you never use for anything else.
I had to re-flash the damn phone just to see if factory reset worked
Requiring a backup code is fine and a good thing. But making this backup the primary function is just annoying and makes the initial primary function a pointless gimmick.

You and folk like you are Samsung's target customers, my son watched the underwhelming reveal and wants one too.
It's because the S4 (and in turn the Note 3) were so good that without a generation gap between them anything else feels like a small bump above everything else.

Its simply that people dont like the ugly plastic phones samsung churn out, the innards are fine. With the competition using premium feeling materials like apple/htc/sony you would expect samsung to try to compete but they have such a following now that they dont feel the need to bother as people will lap up anything they put out there. Hopefully they get a sharp decline in sales and it wakes them up a little.

I think there's a bit of that but I think the disappointment, certainly from me is that there's been no attempt to change the look even slightly which makes the thing feel dates.
