Treadmill :D

I know Bimmers always get huge boners on here, but that really isn't to my taste. Obviously it's better than my Volvo and Golf, before anyone says it, but white, 3 door, massive wheels is my car nightmare-combo.

Recession white looks awful. 3 doors in a saloon is impractical and done sheerly for aesthetic reasons. Huge alloys with low profile tyres = crashy ride and unnecessarily expensive tyres.

Great engine though.

It's for the looks, innit.

He should have got a far more practical 5 door generic bland euro box in silver and not even bothered posting if we're being honest. Not that I know anything about his circumstances or tastes

How do you stay on a treadmill, the temptation just to get off and watch TV would be to great. At least when out and you're 10 or so miles away from home, you have to carry on.

Let me be the first to boringly say "What's up with running outside blah blah blah, get out in the fresh air blah blah blah" and the usual nonsense.

Safety (for a girl).
Weather.
Time of day.
No need to dress...(run in your undies in trainers if you want).
Easier on the knees.

But treadmill are soooooo boring, mind numbingly boring.

How are they easier on the knees? You're still running. Unless you mean you cheat by bearing some weight by holding on to the bars?

Anyway, outside = Best!

Perhaps you put a TV in front of you.
Some of us are now suffering the years of marathons & half marathons with arthritic spines, hips & knees and a decent treadmill still keeps you running without the battering.
One mile running on a treadmill will still burn the same calories as one mile running on the road but I 100% agree that you can't train for a race on a treadmill.
My eldest daughter is just learning this after hitting the road for the very first time 3 days ago.

Have you ever ran on a treadmill?

Concrete, no give.
Treadmill, it kind of bounces a little if you jump on it.

Never ran on a treadmill but just about everything else. Find that a softer surface = easier on shins/knees but more effort needed? Surely it's the same with a treadmill?

Running causes shock damage to the knee's, cycling doesn't. If you have dodgy knees to start with (like me), running is a seriously bad (and painful) idea, however cycling is a good alternative.

Ditto, cross trainer or swimming is good alternative too. Or Rowing, but you need perfect technique or you risk injuring yourself and not getting the best benefit from it.
