£600 to spend on a single Graphics card ! What one should I get ?

Nothing will come close to Xfire 290pro's at that price!

But if you are that against SLI or Xfire, I personally would grab a 290 or a 780 and keep the rest for beer money.

Sorry to jump on the thread, but would a single 290 run games on MAX at 2560 x 1440 without issues?

Thanks :)

No, in the most intensive titles like Crysis 3 you'd be getting just over 20fps maxed out at 1440p (i.e. unplayable). My single 780 didn't cut it with C3 at 1440p maxed out, and to be honest even with 2 780s in SLI I still only get ~38fps maxed out on this game (it's the AA which is the performance killer here).

I disagree sorry.
One of my 290x will run crisis 3 at 2560x1600p fine, around 40 fps on max.

The extra vram shines at the sort of res.

Because they exhaust the heat? (Reference)

I'm just wondering how much noise difference and cooling to expect between a reference design and a custom cooler? Which is better at Both?

Yeah. I went for 2x 780ti reference designs (although EVGA superclocked) as the cooler design suits SLI far more than one that dumps heat into the case. I'd also have the issue with CPU temps rising due to my radiator placement (factory watercooled cpu) if both gpus dumped heat into the case instead.

Food for thought perhaps

Wait for the release of GTX 790? Though I'm not even sure how long it will be until it releases/whether it'll be ~£600

Sorry but that just won't happen. With full settings and at 1600P, no chance and why does the extra VRAM help? I have 6GB of VRAM but it doesn't make a bit of difference over people with 3GB 780's/Ti's.

@ the OP, if you have a decent CPU, grab the 780Ti for the best GPU out :)

single card, it'll be 780TI or 7990 if you're lucky.
Personally I chose to get 290X as it has more RAM for 1440p.
With the change I grabbed myself a 480GB ssd.

Turn AA off and what I say is true.
at 2560x1600 AA isn't exactly required.

It does happen. If I had time to **** about installing Crysis 3 and benching i would prove it.

I have a 780ti and a 290x and I find the 780ti a much better all round experience over the 290x. I also use 1440p and run everything perfectly fine but I do not monitor FPS.
