***The Official LG Optimus G2 Thread***

So im considering getting a g2 but I had a couple questions if I may

I'm considering rooting the device if need be.

Any slow motion video options?
Nope. (Though you can always record at 60fps and slow it down in whatever video player you use.)

Is there a physical camera button? I assume not given the button placement.
Nope

Does rooting affect the battery life?
Nope - I'm rooted and battery keeps going and going

Battery life is the big reason I'm looking at this phone. I currently have a note 1 so keeping the same screen size is a bonus. An upgraded camera would be second on the list which this seems to have although low light shots aren't great?
Low light shots are a world better than the Note1 (which i moved from). I've also compared indoor shots with a friend's Note3 and the LG is much better.

That said, the de-noising algorithm can blur images too much sometimes and most indoor shots have 1/10 exposure time, so subject movement can result in blurs, though the OIS helps negate hand shake in that regard. Another issue with the stock camera is low framerates when recording video.

I'd strongly suggest getting the Xdabbeb's Camera Mod on XDA, once you're rooted. It reduces the de-noising and give a 1/15 exposure option. It also improves the viewfinder frame rate (which is terrible on the stock camera), and puts a lower limit on low-light video recording framerates.

I've also been considering a lumia 1020, nexus 5 and even an iPhone 5s but in fairly certain I couldn't handle that small a screen which is also a problem for the lumia.

Some comments. If I'm not too busy tonight (Which i probably will be) I'll try and dig out some shots in difficult lighting situations.

Cheers for that. I may experiment rooting my note 1 as I've never done it before and it's not the end of the world if I screw that phone up.

I'm sure in years past picking a phone was easier seems to be so many options these days and nothing is just quite right.

Can anyone tell me if it is necessary to use a flash recovery like twrp if you are just rooting your phone to use g2 xposed and not flash rooms?

Also, if anyone uses g2 xposed does it use up much battery and cpu/ram?

O2 or import. I bought my hk import on ebay.

16gb definitely isn't enough, can't believe flagships are being released with so little

16gb does the trick for me. I don't need 1000s of songs or loads of movies at once. When Ive got wifi I can just sync some media from Google drive.

It would be nice to have the extra though, just not for £40 more.

This phone is truly incredible. This is the first time with a phone that I've felt that the power isn't a tradeoff for poor battery life. I was tempted to wait for the gs5 before I bought it but I'm glad I didn't. The g2 is 250 cheaper and in my opinion better. This phone is a powerhouse; everything is instant, what more could you want? A gimmicky heart rate sensor and 0.2 or so extra ghz?

Neither phone is perfect, the S5 does have a sd slot and a better screen in its favour.

Whether the screen is better is subjective. Having an sd slot is an advantage if you need it (I dont). Just the extra bezel and size of the s5 is off putting. The pros and cons would be negligible if the s5 wasn't almost double the price. For £320 the g2 is about as close to perfect as you can get, imo

You can find official stock 802 firmware on xda now folks. Should work on uk phones and phones imported from Europe or HK .

I'm just waiting for custom recoveries before making the jump.

Fair enough, though IMO the casing feels tacky and cheap, so does the feel of the back buttons. And LG's skin is like a dog's dinner.

Crazy...crazy....am getting drawn back to the LG G2...I miss the large screen and form factor.

Does anyone know if I buy from the German rainforest if 4G will work on 3 UK?

The back feels a bit cheap alright, the front is just screen though - definitely doesn't look cheap. LG's skin isn't too bad, better than touchwiz anyway. You can get rid of most of the filler without rooting. I'd like to see a size comparison with an s5 to see how much extra plastic there is for the same size screen

I love this phone. The only change I'd make is a less cheap feeling back. Maybe it should have been a rubberised back instead? But the phone itself is superb. Solid battery, gorgeous screen, completely stutter free, and I absolutely love the buttons being on the back. I find it so awkward now when I use a phone that have them in the normal place.

Does anyone know of a slim carbon fibre case by any chance? I've been using a wallet case but I got sick of its bulk so I'm not using a case at the moment, which is great but I know i will drop it sooner or later. Does anyone know of some slimline cases which add minimal bulk?

After smashing both front screen and rear glass on my xperia z yesterday whilst putting a washing machine in my van i needed a replacemant quick, thanks prime!

This phone is immense!
