'Contact lost' with Malaysia Airlines plane

They already have that in planes its called a QAR.

No, the Quick Access Recorder is a separate box to the FDR. It records various aircraft / engine parameters on to a media device, our aircraft use a PCMCIA card. On return to main base the card is replaced and read on a PC with the relevant software installed.

I don't know for sure what systems that 777 was using but the Boeing aircraft I work on transmit faults via ACARS and SATCOM from the central maintenance computer when a fault is detected. This is sent back to the Maintrol department which, using an Aircraft Health Monitoring system, can then interrogate the fault messages.

If the aircraft did have an airframe failure in flight then its entirely possible nothing was transmitted due to the speed of the break up.

I suppose chance of survival now is slim but still holding out hope when you read the likes of the Uraguian crash in the Andes all those years ago.

I remember see a documentary about sharks and which shark was the worse killer as the great whites get a bad rep thanks to Jaws and they claimed that the worst were bull sharks.

Basically the reason being is that plane fuel well most types of fuel attracts them. So even if you were lucky enough to ditch into the water after a plane crash your likely to be eaten by one. Not because they are blood thirsty killers just because they have been attracted to the area and happen to be hungry while people are in the sea splashing about.

Nasty way to go but I think the point of that documentary was trying to suggest that could be one of the reasons why when planes go down in the middle of an ocean not many people are ever found after 3 days.

So today's news is that the Chinese photos last night were wrong. And rumours that maybe the plane flew on for an extra 4 hours!

Two questions I've got:
ACARS and Rolls-Royce engine monitoring data. When and where did it stop, what were the last reports etc.
Cargo manifest. We've had the passenger list, but no mention of cargo. Both for the "Lithium batteries fire" theory and the "Hijacked for gold bullion" theory.

When was the last time someone survived a plan crash into the sea?

What makes you think it crashed into the sea? Oh, and about 155 passengers, on the hudson river....

My theory has altered now...

Plane goes missing (actually landed somewhere on remote island). Multiple countries send navy / air force / S&R to tight packed coordinates.

Terrorist attack strikes at each of the countries involved whilst resources are stretched in true 24 style action....

Also, chuck norris

EDIT ^^ Photo above is eerie, but unless the pilot literally touched it down at 5mph, there's no way that would still be intact like that. Also, likely it could just a plane flying through cloud

This whole thing reminds me of the time I tried to search for the special package in GTA5 off the north west coast...that took 5 days :(

ACARS:

The last transmission from the aircraft was at 01.07, which indicated everything was normal.

TFH time: what if the location of the jet is known but governments are trying to give the hijackers/thieves/kidnappers the idea that they don't have a scooby perhaps while they prepare to send the special forces in ? Also, Chuck Norris. :D

Rolls Royce in Derby have been very quiet......we are not getting told the full story

And why should we until the initial investigations are conducted? It's better to leave all information to the experts than to release it to the public, who on the whole have no idea what they are on about.

It would be nice to think that, in such a situation, whoever is organising the special forces rescue could do it in less than 5 days. Maybe they are waiting for the hijackers to do something to give away more information of motives/backing.

A theory which i havnt seen much discussion about is sabotage without explosives. An EMP device or computer hack from onboard could explain the complete loss of comms but still leave the pilots with just enough control to ditch into the water relatively intact.

Looks like those diagrams of star constellations. You have three stars in a triangle and they construct a mythological gorgon with five heads out of it in full battle armour.

lol at people thinking they are going to find something on here
Why? If the plane crashed in that area then it is quite possible that the satellite picked it up. Surely having more eyes looking at pictures where the plane might be is a good thing because, even if they do turn up thousands of false positives, someone might spot something that the authorities missed.

Granted, having a very tired me pointing excitedly at a picture of a wing shaped cloud isn't exactly helpful though :p
