Two questions:
The 40degree arc we've got from the satellite ping is for the very last ping. Have the previous pings been released? (IIRC it was said they're 30minute intervals) Could combining the various arcs help work out the location?
The last voice comms to ATC from the plane (after ACARS has gone off), have they done any voice analysis to confirm it was the crew speaking?

Looking at videos of the pilot's home flight sim on the BBC, those controls looks more advanced than a normal computer desktop flight sim for FSX.

The ping was from the plane as seen by a satellite which was further West. As far as I know that arc they're looking on is the final arc it could have reached. It's not like they can combine the arcs to find an exact spot.

I did think when it was first found he had a sim that he just stole the plane for the equipment to upgrade
