Haven't pulled the trigger on the expansion yet. The game has been more fun but I spent 4-5 hours grinding last night to only get 2 legendaries. One was completely useless and not a single rare that even matched my current gear. Most if which is still gear from before the patch.

I've found that you seem to get more legendary drops on new chars / chars with rubbish gear. Not had anything drop on my Barbarian worth note, even though you can see from his stats that he's got poor strength (compared to the base Int/Dex on my Wizard/Monk) from his gear.

So last night on my Wizard I did a speed run clear of Normal.

It netted me

  • 8 Legends.
  • 1 Set Ring
  • 1 Set Plan
  • 1 Legend Plan
  • 3 Para Levels
If the Legend looks like something that isnt traditionally Wizard based - ie a bow - I will pop it into my stash and ID it using the best fit class. So in the case of the bow i have a nice Legend waiting for my DH.

From my experience stats are definitely decided on drop, thought i would do the same with a bunch of drops I got with my monk, id'd them with my Wizard and they were all +Dex

Have you tried that and can confirm it works? There seems to be conflicting information as to whether stats are decided on drop or identify.

Can only confirm what happened to me last night when a bow dropped on the Wizard. Put it into stash and logged my DH who ID'd it.

It rolled DEX

Bear in mind this was a solo loot and may be a factor.

Decided on Drop from what I've seen. I had a Pig Sticker drop on my Monk with high dps, ID it with my Wizard - rolls with over 500 dex. Despite this I think I'll still go and ID things on the character I want them on just in case there is any truth in it until it is proved otherwise :p

That's definitely not how it works I'm afraid. The stats for an item are determined when it drops, not by the character you pass it to for ID. With smart loot 2.0 however there is a small chance that a dropped item will be better suited for another class.

Most legendary bows look like they're guarenteed to roll Dex, so it's not surprising you got dex even though the item dropped on your Wiz, not all drops are smart loot :).

Edit: Which bow was it that dropped btw?

To test this I got 2 legendaries on a low-level wizard, moved them to my 60 barb and identified, what I got was low level items for a wizard.

That Raven's Bow wont be level 29 though, smart 2.0 has bought out 60 versions of every single existing legendary so it will be a level 60 one.

lost my 60HC toon last night, was farming the arreat crater run to azmodan on T1 which i thought was safe enough on my wiz.

Met a horrible pack and that was the end of that, rip Overpowered, rip.

On the flip side playing HC is the best fun ive had while waiting for ROS. I just cant be bothered farming for little upgrades on my 60's when ill be replacing all of it well before 70.
