I agree with your post but just have to point out that Belarus is already under Russian control - I think Kazakhstan is also in Moscow's "sphere of influence". Latvia and Estonia are NATO members now so are immune (at least I bloody hope so!). The one you missed was Moldova, there's already a semi-autonomous region of ethnic Russians there, however as it doesn't border Russia (it borders Ukraine mostly) I'm not sure what Russia can realistically do there.

doesn't NATO only count in the event of a nuclear attack not a conventional one

There are some (specific scenario) clauses regarding non-nuclear agression from a nuclear capable nation or a non-nuclear nation "sponsored" by a nuclear capable nation in the NATO charter on nuclear disarmament. However its likely Russia would skirt around those clauses anyhow. It is a factor that Ukraine could potentially try to use to compel NATO help.

tbh we're kinda reaping what we sowed here.

We demonstrated over the last decade plus that a super power or group of nuclear nations can invade smaller countries at will without repercussions.

We were admonished by Russia and the rest of the world for our invasions and interference in the middle east, and we ignored them. Are we really now surprised that they have decided to follow our lead and are ignoring our reprimands?

But but but international law!

at least they've done this in a far more civilized manner than us, by now in our invasions we'd expended hundreds of tons worth of explosives into major cities killing thousands.

they've possibly shot one solider.

Not quite sure what else you can do though - can't uninvent nuclear weapons sadly.

Not sur you understand the situation in hand tbh. Russia want to invade Crimea to keep Crimea. Which country did we last invade, in the ME or elsewhere that we wanted to keep as a colony ?

no sure you understand the situation tbh.

We demonstrated that invasions go unpunished so Russia felt they could do that too safely, what they do afterwards is immaterial to the current part of the situation.

I gave my source, original post from me. "BBC Breaking News is that Crimean election officials are reporting that 95.5% of voters in the referendum voted in favour of joining Russia with half the ballots in. It's like they can't even be bothered maintaining the pretence that this is a fair referendum."

98.8 percent of the Falklands population voted to remain British?

that mean that was fake too?

Talk to me which invasions in particular do you refer to?

Iraq being the main one which was almost universally denounced by the worlds governments.

WE kinda just ignored them all and did it any way, hey what do you know other people copied our lead.

Afghanistan was slightly more accepted however but still widely condemned.

It's a tad depressing that Obama has summoned a meeting of the leaders of the G7 countries next week. What's wrong with tomorrow or the day after? I know they're all busy people but surely the annexation of a country in Europe would warrant reshuffling their plans a bit.

They could meet first thing tomorrow and Putin wouldn't give a stuff.

They have been cheering his name in Red Square just.
