Delivery man inside the house...

I don't want delivery guys coming in to my house, so I lock the door. I don't think it's unreasonable, though, for them to drop a parcel inside if the door is unlocked. I mean, why is it left unlocked and unattended if it's not ok to be used for a delivery?

I listed three reasons just off the top of my head, above!

You're the delivery guy aren't you?

Has to be!

No, I'm the guy that sits on your sofa and eats your biscuits.

The poo-on-the-sideboard guy is someone else, though. A good bloke, but needs to eat more fibre.

I don't have any biscuits in my house, your move weird sofa surfing biscuit stealer!

I've never heard of a front door that doesn't automatically lock

So, every single day you have to deliberately lock your door?
Get a new lock.

Really? I can't think of many houses that do automatically lock rather than the other way round.

Why not? If it's unlocked, that would presumably mean the occupier is happy for someone to open it - a postie delivering a parcel seems a reasonable person to do so. And you can't usually tell it's unlocked without trying it.
Are you for real? Because the front door is unlocked, you're assuming that the house owner is happy for people to open the door and let themselves in? What planet do you live on?

What if the house owner simply forgot to lock the door?
What if (like me) the house owner is taking various bits of rubbish out and doesn't want to lock the door between trips?
What if the house owner is waiting for their girlfriend to come around and is waiting naked in the bedroom for them?

The only time it is acceptable for a delivery man to open my unlocked front door and drop a parcel off is if I have planned it with them previously. Other than that, they can knock, wait for me to answer, and card me if I'm not there. If I come down the stairs and find that delivery man in my house, I wouldn't ask him what he was doing, I'd be treating him as a burglar and tackling him to the floor.

What if, what if, what if.

What bad things actually happen if a postie opens your front door to deliver a parcel? I don't get all the rage.

After reading the OP again it sounds like you may have left you door open and not just unlocked.

Also, the delivery guy rang the bell to alert you to them being there and closed your door for you

If this is the case then I dont see any issue

It's not a question of bad things happening, and I can't believe you can't see that. It's his house, it's his property. The only people who can come into my house are the people I invite in. How on earth can you not see that?!

If this 'opening the door' delivery method became commonplace,
the courier could hand you your 'Sorry, you were not at home' card to you personally :)

some have tried ;)

lucky your not in russia, everyone has seen the YT vid of the postie smashing the window to deliver his mail.

The parcel's his property too. Would be nice to get it delivered and not have to make a trip to some depot.

Why so much jealousy about your house? postie sticking a parcel in doesn't diminish the sanctity of your castle.

he did you a favour in a way

This.

Any other outcome would have had you making a thread......

"OMGZ, I was literally coming down the stairs to answer the door and all I saw was the driver drive off in his van  Now I have to drive X miles to the depot to collect FML etc"

I give up, you're obviously more than happy for anyone to walk into your home whether you're there or not. Feel free to send me your address and unlock the door when you're out. I'll come and have a good look around when you're not there.

Personally if it was me I would be happy the item was delivered at all and not just ticketed which seems to be the norm for my deliveries, even when I'm in the house.

There is a big difference between the courier opening the door to set the parcel inside and strolling in and helping himself to your tea and biscuits.

I wish there was a more interesting story to tell to be honest, all I saw as I came down the stairs was the back of his head and the door closing.

I just cannot fathom either how slow you much have been travelling or he must have been running like Usain Bolt to get away so fast

he would have an excuse if he was just coming out of the shower with just a towel, tried to chase after him "oh ****!!* then has to run back
