Any tips for getting back into cycling? Not been on the road in a good 6 months, rarely go on my rollers either :(
Strava used to be my reason to go out, try and retain the KOMs i managed to get (got one left, no idea how...pretty slow for that stretch)

I think you nailed it yourself really - you need to have a goal in mind to keep you getting out there.

Well, that's annoying :D
I want to get back on the bike, but the only 'time off' i get from work is on the weekends and currently all i want to do is lay there lol, lack the motivation to get up and do something.

Was hoping for a magic button to get me off my arse! :D
The one thing that's really putting me off is my fitness, i can do about 15-20 mins on the rollers and that's it, i'm done. Not sure how that would translate in actual road miles, but i used to do a good 2 hours/35-40 miles on the bike.

I can do 100miles on my bike but 30-45mins on the rollers absolutely destroys me, theyre totally not comparable at (well my) kinda level

im the total opposite to you though, I cant stand strava anymore it puts me off if anything, given up on numbers other than distance ridden, elevation and avg speed is fairly interesting

Join a club? Sign up for some sportives? Set yourself a challenge like c2c or something?

Still don't feel 100%, just something not quite right in my stomach area. Don't want to spend hours hunched on the bike compressing that area so having another day off.

Ignoring Saturdays Crit which I don't count, I've not ridden since last Wednesday when I had a blinder!

Hoping to be able to ride tomorrow as I only have a week and a bit until im back in the UK when I won't be riding much/at all and I can't take that much time off the bike!

Heh heh new bike time!! :D

Doubt you would get £250 for the frankenbike though?

Not sure if SRAM Apex/Rival shifters still have a nasty habit of snapping, but with your history (:p) I'd be careful of going that route?

hmm never knew of the snapping issue..I'm sure I'd snap it in my first 10 miles knowing my luck lol..

I should be able to get £250ish for the franken lol, do remember it has some extras so it's far from stock triban 3.

105 just looks really heavy compared to other groupos, tiagra is butt ugly.. and ultergra is rare for that budget.

...no it's not. It's new bike time! :D

Definitely new bike time, new groupset is like putting lipstick on a pig (as a former Triban 3 owner).

lol, yeah it would be a bit erm spending 400-500 quid on a triban 3.

We all know how much you love your Triban, but it really is a low-end bike.
Yes, it is far better than most other low-end bikes but it's not worth spending that much money on it.

If you put that £500 towards a new bike and add in the ~£200ish from selling your Triban, you can get something a lot better.
I'm not sure what the fixation with SRAM is? but i'v never used it, so maybe it's me that's missing out. You can get 2013 models with shimano 105 for ~£700 now.
Example.

there's no fixation to SRAM really.. 105 does sound like the groupo for my budget.

that bike looks a bit crap though, groupo is alright but wheels/brakes ??

cheap for what it is.

Anyone here using a power meter for structured training? If so, what training plans are you using?

My plans are all in the training logs section. I am using my power meter for most of it, but i havnt put power figures in the plans.

I used my powermeter to pace a 10 mile TT for the first time on saturday - it was a disaster :(

My mate won the race in a time of 22:13 and avg power 329w
I did 23:52 with an avg power of 333w.
(he is heavier than me)

He sent me his garmin files so i could compare them. My power is fairly steady, stays around 310-350 most of the time whereas his varies quite a bit from 200-400.
I concluded that he is making better use of his power by pushing a bit harder on the slower sections and keeping his momentum much better than me.
Next TT (2 weeks time) i'm going to try and keep my momentum up by pushing harder up the climbs and resting a bit more on the descents.

Have you seen quantifiable improvement in your training since you moved to power based training?

Yes, but i started training with power at the same time that i started following a proper training plan. So i dont know how much benefit comes from using power and how much comes from a structured plan.

I am doing a lot of stuff now that wouldnt be possible with just a heart rate monitor. Any short intervals up to a minute are easy to get right with a powermeter but almost impossible to pace correctly using heart rate.

Also, be prepared for massive disappointment the first time you use it and realise that the power you can sustain is around 1/3 of what the pros can do :p

£846.22?
sounds about as on budget you'll get with 105?

I didnt mean that it's not good value, i meant that it may have been more than Grudas wanted to spend.
He said he was thinking of spending 4-500 on upgrading his triban, so i guessed that by putting that money towards a new bike and getting maybe 200ish for selling his triban, he'd have around 700 for a new bike.
