Planet X' hold music is horrible...

EDIT: It turned out to be worth the wait. When my bike turned up on Saturday with that silly looking silver stem, I set up a stock alert on the black ones which it seems were out of stock at the time, and I got an email this morning to say they had some stock in. I called to ask if they could send one out, and I'd send the silver one back, and they said yes, sure, they'd send out a black one and that I needn't bother sending the silver one back. Result!

I doubt I'll even keep the silver one, even as a spare, it is that ugly... ebay ahoy...

That's good service there, least they have sorted it out. What length stem is it?

It comes in anodized black or glossy black too.:D

Canyon Roadlite AL 6.0 looks sweet too but then you are approaching £1000 once you include shipping.

Should I upgrade my current Giant Defy 5 bike to a Shimano 105 groupset and new wheels or buy a new bike for roughly £750-£800?

Pretty simple to answer IMO.

Is the frame/fork in good condition and does it fit you perfectly?

Fit is far far more important than bling.

105 is a nice gruppo.

It is in good condition and yes it does, was fitted at a bike store, I'll probably just upgrade it then to the 105 and new wheels.

I might be biased, but good luck getting a Ribble with a spec similar to the Rose for £850!

it's possible to be honest, the frame paintwise is not as nice but then again its me.. i'd strip it and repaint it in a week lol.

I just couldn't ride with a stock looking bike... unless I drew a big **** on the side to make it unique ;)

And where it really matters, in the looks, the Rose is just so much prettier than any of the Ribble offerings.

it is a very pretty bike! no doubt about that.. ribble bikes are VERY meh look wise.

WOW ribble has a website? lol, thanks, yeah I knew about ribble but I never though they'd do a full 105 groupo on alu frame for less than £800! then again I never did any research so I stand corrected.

even tho those stock wheels look horrible, I'd probably rip them off and stick them on my franketribanthing before I sell it.

and since I repaint/mod all my bikes I guess colour etc doesn't really matter in my case.

Gah - 2 miles from home tonight I broke a spoke in my rear wheel (Planet X AL30), limped home and by the time I had got home the rear wheel was buckled and rubbing on the brake blocks. I had the wheels trued about 2 months ago and the LBS people were not that impressed with the wheels and said if anything happens to them again, replace them with something.

According to Strava I put them on 11th April 2013 and I have done 2,716.0miles on them, I don't commute so the miles have mostly been evening, weekend and holiday riding. Is nearly 3000 miles good wear for a set of wheels, I dont think so? Not sure whether to try and get the wheel repaired?

I have a jam packed cycling summer with London to Paris 24hr, JOGLE in 7 days and Tour du Mont Blanc so have been putting in the training miles recently and will have to continue as I have a lot of miles and climbing over the summer to cover.

Are there any good wheel deals about at the moment, suppose my absolute maximum is £300 for a pair but preferably £250 or lower? Need to be strong, lightweight for climbing and maintain a good rolling speed as going to be covering a lot of miles.

Thanks

Bugger.

I've just accidentally bought a Garmin 800.

Put in a cheeky bid as the auction was still quite low, and I won! Didn't realise the item was in the USA, but think I might still have got a bargain, even if I get hit with import taxes.

So will be looking for a new home for my 500..

about avarage in my case..

stock triban 3 wheels - 1.4k miles
shimano r501's - 2.4k
campy khamsin - 3.8k and still going strong.

I'd recommend getting a set of campy's to be honest!

Campag Zonda. I had AL30s for a while and they were OK but I had 3 or 4 broken spokes in quick succession (one spoke went 40 miles from home!) so returned them for a full refund. I have Zondas on my good bike now and they are superb so far. Fast, light, strong and (hopefully) durable.

Just had another look at the rear wheel and its buckled quite bad so may not even be able to be trued and the spoke replaced. So looks like its a write off, front wheel is fine. Might speak to Planet X tomorrow to see if they can offer anything, though doubt they will as it's nearly a year since I bought them.

Yeah been looking at the Zondas and the reviews look very good - seem ideal for my cycling, so definitely considering them - just the price seems a little ouch to me at present :). With the Planet X AL30s how long did you have them before returning them for a full refund? Mine have been about a year so doubt I can return them.

Guys, I need your thoughts please

I have been reading up on Endurance training again, and 1 article says one thing, another article, says a different way

What do you guys do ?
