Life without Breaking Bad

2) When I do watch them, it's over pretty quick and I can barely remember what happened. Breaking Bad, for example, I was hooked all the way through but if you were to ask me what happened in season 2 or something like that I wouldn't have a clue.

Maybe I need to change to watching as individual seasons are completed instead.

This is why you watch it again a few years later :). I watched the Wire a few years ago and will be watching it through again at some point. I did the same with the first few seasons of 24 and it was just as enjoyable the second time around. With a more complex show like the wire, you would probably pick up on things you missed the first time around as well.

I think you are right with switching to complete seasons, rather than the entire series. It's bad enough waiting for the full season, never mind waiting years for the entire thing. I really want to start watching the new season of Game of thrones, but will try to hold off as it's much more enjoyable watching the whole season in a few sittings. Got banshee season 2 to keep me occupied for now.

Agreed, it's my favorite comedy at the moment :D
I've just started watching "Eastbound & Down" which is also hilarious, highly recommended :D

I'd totally forgotten about Eastbound and Down, i got the first series from a work mate in our secret santa a couple of years ago, it is very, very funny.

However i think it's possibly quite a "niche humour", i can think of people i wouldn't recommend it to.

Watched the entire BB during Jan and Feb.. Loved it. Felt a bit flat afterwards.

Will probably take on Dexter next winter but summers nearly here.. better things to do.

Justified
House of Cards
The Shield
The West Wing

It's no BB by any stretch but I'm currently watching Scandal on Amazon, pretty good so far.

If you want something truly epic to sink your teeth into, The Shield or The West Wing.....imo

Justified. Right up there with Breaking Bad, The Wire and The Sopranos. Ignore what most everyone else says - loads of good shows mentioned in here but really nothing comes close.

Glad I'm not alone in this empty feeling :P
Tried Sons of Anarchy after, watched the first season and was not bad.

Looking to start either House of Cards or True Detective next, just waiting to have some spare time, so I can binge watch :D

Entourage = Absolute classic!
Board Walk Empire - Brilliant first couple of seasons
24 = 2nd fav to BB

Sherlock
House of Cards - Middle of S1 is a bit poor compared to the rest though.
The Shield
Suits - my second favourite TV series ever!

I could never get into Dexter, got up to Ep05 of S01 but got bored. People said to persevere but just nothing grabbed me

Didn't expect the thread to be so popular. There is quite a few that's keep being mentioned that we will look into when we get in mood to get into a new series.

I am horrible for comparing though, I will compare to BB and if it doesn't match I'll get rid pretty much straight away. I can't help it.

Go for dexter, i dont see how anybody doesnt get gripped in by that, other than the dude above but go figure lol.

I would firstly recommend the wire although can feel a little dated its second to BB for me

Adore The Wire! McNulty trying to steer his car through the underpass whilst ****ed for me is one of the stand-out scenes of the series! So soooo funny :D

Him banging that waitress after must have been fun for him :cool:

edit - Found a little clip of the car bit;

Just started watching Breaking Bad. Bought all the seasons on blu-ray. Loving it so far. Last show I got into properly was Dexter, which started off great but lost it's way in the later seasons, although S7 was decent. That ending tho...what were they thinking? Anyway I have to say so far it looks like Breaking Bad is much better than Dexter in every way. Cinematography, storyline, characters, character development, acting...all better. Bryan Cranston in particular is an amazing actor.

Here are some suggestions with competent actors, believable scenarios, realistic circumstances and smart plots.

Borgen - Danish political series (leaps and bounds better than house of cards). First 2 seasons only, the 3rd season is crap
The Killing - Danish detective series. Season 3 is the best, season 2 is great, season 1 is a bit longer than necessary but still excellent.
Bron/Broen - Danish/swedish detective series. Both seasons rock.

Do not watch the american crappy remakes.

+1 for ntg's recommendations. I couldn't really get into Borgen, but I loved The Killing and especially Bron/Broen (there's a third season in the works too, for any fans). Another good Swedish police procedural I enjoyed was Arne Dahl.

In regards to Breaking Bad... the missus and I finished it on Sunday. Loved it. From start to finish. The end of season 4, Face Off. Holy crap. With all that said, I still felt the series finale was weak. It wasn't a bad ending. It tied everything up nicely. Left some options on the table. I dunno though. Compared to Face Off... it just didn't make me say "holy ****ing ****" out loud.
